The May 2026 sixth report and order, which focuses on streamlining and improving the Broadband Data Collection (BDC) by alleviating unnecessary regulatory burdens on service providers and challenge process participants, was published in the Federal Register and is effective July 24.
The order:
- Aligns reporting requirements for broadband availability and subscription data
- Declines to adopt a proposal to require satellite providers to submit additional certifications and supporting data
- Streamlines the Fabric challenge process
- Adopts a maximally streamlined process by which the BDC system automatically removes areas or locations that fail a verification or audit without requiring the provider to update its availability data after receiving notice of the failed verification or audit
- Makes certain ministerial changes
The accompanying FNPRM was also published in the Federal Register, with comments due July 24, replies due August 24.
In the FNPRM, the FCC seeks comment on eliminating outdated requirements and ways to enhance the efficiency of the BDC, while ensuring the FCC continues to receive accurate, granular data and on several approaches suggested by commenters to simplify, streamline or otherwise reduce burdens on the coverage restoration process.
