On Tuesday, the Los Angeles City Planning and Land Use Management (PLUM)
held a hearing on the “Building a Safer Los Angeles” wood construction motion. The Committee voted to direct staff to prepare an ordinance that would expand the area of Fire District No. 1 to cover over 63% of the City. This would prohibit Type IV and V wood construction from being built, due to fire safety concerns. The ordinance will return to the Committee in 60 days. BIA-LAV testified against the item and over the last several months has met with City Council offices to discuss it's negative impact on housing.
BIA-LAV will continue to oppose the motion and keep our membership updated. For more information please contact Senior Director of Government Affairs,
