"We come and go, but the land is always here. And the people who love it and understand it are the people who own it - for a little while."

The summer solstice (and coincidentally, INHF's 38th birthday!) is still a couple of weeks away, but if the recent weather is any indicator, summer days are here to stay.

INHF invites you to get outdoors with us, connect with the land and make new friends at these upcoming events. Together, we can make an incredible difference across Iowa. No experience? No problem!

UPCOMING VOLUNTEER OUTINGS

Thistle Thursday
Thursday, June 8  |  9:30 a.m. - 12 p.m.  |  Near Ames
If you're free this week, join us at Jordan Family Wildlife Area to help cut thistles that have taken over parts of the property. If left unchecked, thistles can crowd out native plants. Stay until noon or whenever the thistles are gone - whichever comes first!

UpCycle Stewards: June
Thursday, June 16  |  5:30 - 7:30 p.m.  |  Des Moines
Help remove invasive plants from around Gray's Lake to be "upcycled" food for the zoo's animals! We'll head to Confluence Brewing Co. after the event to relax and raise a glass to our efforts. This is a partner event with Blank Park Zoo, Des Moines Parks and Recreation and Trees Forever.

*UpCycles will be held the third Thursday of each month June - August. Attend all three and you'll be entered to win a Blank Park Zoo family four pack and feed bundle, which includes food to feed the parakeets, ostriches, giraffes, kid's kingdom animals and fish!

Surly at Snyder
Saturday, June 17 |  9 - 11:30 a.m.  |  Elkhart
Prairie sounds + brush removal + Surly brews = one great Saturday! Join INHF and Surly Brewing Co. at Snyder Heritage Farm to help us cut brush. After the event, we'll grab a drink at Fong's in Ankeny - compliments of Surly - to celebrate our hard work.

Heritage Valley Seed Harvest
Wednesday, July 12 |  9 a.m. - 12 p.m.  |  Waukon
It's not summer at INHF without our annual seed harvest! You're invited to help hand collect prairie seed with us from two scenic hillside prairies at Heritage Valley, a 1,200-acre nature preserve not usually open to the public. Arrive early to enjoy local coffee, conversation and learn more about the area.

Partners on the Prairie: A Brush Removal Event
Thursday, July 13  |  10 a.m. - 2 p.m.  |  Council Bluffs
