I arrived in Nairobi on May 22 and was met by pastors from the Full Gospel Church from Nakuru, Kenya. Also arriving the same day, Eddie Fernandez, leader of the team, pastor in Portugal, (leads INSTE group in his church), Bishop Stevie Mulenga and Jason Rubinda (Free Pentecostal Church of Tanzania) and Mark Luce, World Christian Outreach director.

Kenya's leaders conference was attended by about 250 nationals from the Nakuru region, most of them pastors and elders. It was held in the Full Gospel Kenya church in Kabazi. The morning sessions were messages to encourage and equip the national leaders. I led a session on the first morning giving them an introduction to INSTE. They loved the teaching and worship. We had a good “problem”-most of them wanted to be active participants in the daily afternoon INSTE training sessions. I limited it to 15 leaders which turned out to be the right decision. They were eager to learn a new, effective method of discipleship. Open Bible leader, Bishop Charles Omina and OB pastor Givan Okelo attended the training. Most of the participants were pastors but three of them were bishops. Bishop Stephen Mbuma Muchoi leads the pastors in this region of Kenya for the Full Gospel Church. He signed the License agreement with INSTE and very interested in their churches using INSTE for discipleship in their churches. Already this week, I have received the report from Paul Maina, INSTE coordinator, that several churches have started their first “pilot” class. Bishop Stevie Mulenga is the bishop of the Free Pentecostal Church of Tanzania(about 2000 churches). He is eager to use INSTE in their churches in Tanzania and other Swahili speaking nations. Bishop Mulenga signed the License agreement and has a translation team in Tanzania that is able to translate Level 1 into Swahili. We need to raise the funds.

Swahili

There are about 16 million people who speak Swahili (also known as Kiswahili) as their native language and 82 million who would call it their second language. It has been heavily influenced by Arabic. It is the national language in Tanzania(15 million speakers), Uganda, DRC, and Kenya. Its also spoken by some in Mozambique, Somalia, Comoros Islands, Rwanda, Burundi, Zambia, and Malawi. I estimate it will cost between $4,000-$5000 to translate the four books but don’t have a detailed estimate from the Swahili translation team yet. It could be more than that and I should have a detailed estimate in a week or two.

Ghana

I travelled first to Kumasi by bus from Accra on June 9 to visit the INSTE students and leaders. Emmanuel Asenso was my host. They asked me to speak at the INSTE graduation and ordination of leaders service on the first night after I arrived. It was wonderful to see several new graduates and to speak to them after the service. They are very grateful for INSTE and the impact it has had on their lives. I spoke In four evening church services there and in a Sunday morning service in the OB Accra church. I shared with the level 1 and 2 students in Accra in an afternoon meeting. It was good to hear their testimonies of how God has worked in their lives and used INSTE to train them to be godly leaders.

Senegal

I trained eight young leaders at the Bethel Church AG in Dakar from June 18-21. They are all members of that local church. This was the church that we began the INSTE training in, back in early 2011. During COVID the classes were interrupted and never restarted. One of the key elders asked me to start an INSTE OT class because they were not able to finish it. They are planning on starting several INSTE classes in the fall at the start of the school year. Our INSTE coordinator is Rodney Ndala. He has been very involved in the ministry of the church for several years. He is also willing to invite and train leaders from other churches in Dakar. I signed the license agreement with him.

Swahili

Hay alrededor de 16 millones de personas que hablan suajili (también conocido como kiswahili) como su lengua materna y 82 millones que lo consideran su segunda lengua. Ha recibido una gran influencia del árabe. Es el idioma nacional en Tanzania (15 millones hablan el idioma), Uganda, la República Democrática del Congo y Kenia. African nations - Open Doors for INSTE

Besides Tanzania (Swahili), there is an invitation to Uganda by the Open Bible leader, John Bosco. Chad training is scheduled with John Tressel in October. There is interest from Cameroon and I would like to check with Tom Moore concerning a training in Guinea-Conakry. We need to find out what is happening in Nigeria in terms of active INSTE training Level 1 and 2.

Vision- raise up an African INSTE training team 

I believe God will raise up several brothers who are experienced in ministry, know INSTE, and have a reputation of integrity to form an INSTE team for Africa. It would be helpful if there were French, Swahili, and English speakers on the team. We would meet regularly on Zoom to pray and plan together. We will need to raise funds for their travel to do INSTE training. They would have to volunteer their time. The host nation would have to agree to cover all of their housing, food, and travel inside the country. If the host leader helped with the cost of training manuals that would be good. 

Naciones africanas: abren sus puertas abiertas a INSTE
