We are pleased to partner with Jewish Affinity Group of Piedmont to share in this potluck Shabbat this Friday, January 27, 5-7pm in Guild Hall. Bring a covered dish and learn more about Jewish culture and help memorialize Holocaust Remembrance Day. The event is free and open to all with music and family-friendly activities.

STEWARDSHIP

GIVING CAMPAIGN EYES FEBRUARY 5

On Sunday, February 5, we will have an opportunity to make our financial commitment for 2023 as part of Commitment Sunday. Whether participating in worship in person or online, you will be presented a Financial Commitment Card.

We ask that you prayerfully consider your financial commitment to Piedmont Commmunity Church for the coming year and indicate your support on the card. If worshipping in person, you will be asked to come forward with the rest of your church family to deliver your card as part of our service.

Those worshipping online will be asked to visit a page on our website to fill out a digital card.

FEED THE HOMELESS

January 27, 5-7pm

We know that there is a lot going on with everyone's schedules and there are multiple worthy events that we are all making choices on attending, but if you have time on the evening of January 27 to help feed Oakland's homeless population, consider serving at CityTeam.

We will be serving food from 5-7 pm. For more information or to sign up, contact Swee Ling Chen at [email protected] or sign up after the church service on Sunday.

CAN YOU SEW?

People who can sew are needed to make simple curtains for the 15 houses our students will build during the Mexico Mission trip. These curtains add a warm, homey touch.

Minimal sewing skills needed – all straight seams! If you can sew a napkin you have the necessary skill set.  Fabric and instructions provided.

Curtains must be completed by Sunday, April 1.

Fabric donations are appreciated, too. Each set of curtains needs two 1 yard by 1 yard panels. Contact Ann Lin at (510) 914-3344 or email [email protected] to sew or to donate fabric.

PICKLEBALL SUNDAYS 1-3PM

All are welcome to participate on Sundays from 1-3pm at the indoor gym, second floor of the Christian Education Building.

The official Pickleball committee includes Maureen and Tim Recker, Franki and Matt Davies, Heather Shepard and Katherine Campbell so feel free to ask any of them about the group, or contact Maureen Recker with questions. See you on the court!

CLASSES

STAGES OF FAITH

Starting on Sunday, January 22, we will be exploring the Stages of Faith with Dr. Kate Rankin.

Just as our human development follows fairly predictable stages and seasons, a similar dynamic is at work in our spiritual journey.

Kate Rankin, PhD, Professor and Psychologist, UCSF Department of Neurology, guides us to explore these seasons of spiritual development using the influential work of Janet Hagberg and Robert Guelich in their book The Critical Journey: Stages in the Life of Faith.

Classes will take place starting at 11:15am in the Chapel on January 22, January 29, February 12 and February 19. Contact Don Ashburn at: [email protected]

BIBLE STUDY TURNS

TO GOSPEL OF JOHN

Whether or not you’ve ever studied the Bible before, you’re invited to a weekly online study led by Don Ashburn. Each Monday from 10 - 11 am, a group of

8-12 people get together to study scripture in light of their own lives.

The focus is on the Gospel of John. Contact Don at [email protected]

Stephen Main, our Minister of Music, will join us from time to time with his meditations on meditation. Face coverings recommended, but not required. Ahhhhh, just breathe. Contact Sara Hirsch at [email protected]

CHILDREN & YOUTH

LIVEWIRE BAGS 500 LUNCHES

Last Saturday, part of our Livewire middle school gang went to CityTeam's newly renovated facility in Oakland and made another 100 bag lunches, bringing our total to 500 this school year. The experience was a bit more “real” since we were able to interact with some of the residents and those coming for a free lunch and other helpful items for those who are struggling with homelessness.

This is part of the monthly service opportunities Livewire offers students, and they enjoy serving. Pictured are Lucian Fang-Ring, Beach Lorin, Claire Aubrecht and Evie Hicks.

LIVEWIRE IS GOING TO CAMP

Our middle school group is having a Winter Retreat February 3-5. We will be heading to Westminster Woods in Occidental. The weekend will be packed with fun, group team-building, a challenge course with a zip line, times of worship and good food.

If you have a middle school student and would like information about the weekend, please contact Scott Kail at [email protected] Registration begins this week.

195 STUDENTS HEADED TO MEXICO

Mexico ‘23 is officially full and we are preparing to build homes. We have 195 students signed up to build 15 homes next April. This will put Piedmont Community Church over 350 homes built in greater Tijuana Mexico. We have changed lives for the better in Jesus’ name.
