The Fed board holds a closed meeting on Tuesday to discuss monetary policy issues.  The Fed's Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) starts its two-day meeting on interest rates and will announce its decision at 2 pm EDT on Wednesday.  The Fed is projected to keep the federal funds rate unchanged within a target range of 0.75 percent to 1 percent.

Procedural step of closing debate on the nomination of mergers and acquisitions attorney Jay Clayton to chair the Securities and Exchange Commission,  paving the way for a confirmation vote later in the week, likely the next day. Clayton is a partner at Sullivan Cromwell LLP in New York. The Senate Banking Committee approved his nomination 15-8 in April, with all but three Democrats opposed. Clayton is expected to be confirmed with the backing of all Republican senators and some Democrats.

Full committee markup of H.R.10, the "Financial CHOICE (Create Hope and Opportunity for Investors, Consumers, and Entrepreneurs) Act of 2017." Measure would offer relief for banks that bolster their capital levels and  pare back many aspects of Dodd-Frank, such as the Volcker Rule, which bars proprietary trading by banks, and the Durbin amendment, which caps fees on debit-card transactions.
