The invoices for the 2022 IODA Subscription Dues were sent out in early January.

As per Article 4a) "The annual subscription is payable on or before the 1st of April of that membership year."

The 2022 International Optimist Class Rules have been approved by World Sailing and come into immediate effect. All changes are in red type.

The Optimist Class has a rich sailing history and the year 2023 marks the 50th Anniversary of the Optimist becoming an International Class and the 60th Anniversary of the Optimist World Championship.

Following the launch and successful reception of the ROPE Program in 2021, IODA is expanding it further in 2022 to all our Championship Events.

The recognition of being a finalist in the 11th Hour Sustainability Award in 2021 has giving us renewed energy to promote this program to a wider group and to find partners who want to be involved.

We are looking for logistics and financial partners to help us expand and grow the ROPE Program globally.

The planning for the 2022 Optimist World Championship taking place in Bodrum, TUR from June 27th to July 7th is well under way.

Registration opened on February 20th with the First Entry Deadline taking place on March 1st. The 2nd Entry Deadline is April 15th. Don't miss this important date.

The National Stars Cup has just completed with 300 sailors participating in Bodrum, TUR. The 10th Bodrum International Optimist Regatta (BIOR) is taking place from April 1st to 6th. These events are providing sailors the unique opportunity to compete in the same sailing waters as the World Championship.

The First Entry Deadline is April 15th

The 2022 European Team Racing Championship is taking place in Lago di Ledro, ITA from August 23rd to 28th.

The list of the top 16 qualified nations that qualified at the 2021 European Championship can be found here.

The 2022 African Championship is being held in Cape Town, South African from September 24th to October 1st.

The Online Registration Portal is scheduled to open on April 1st.

The 2022 Asian & Oceanian Championship, originally scheduled for April 25th to May 5th was postponed to later in the year due to the COVID pandemic in Korea.

The event organizers in Yeosu, Korea are working with the local governments to confirm that the event can take place. It is tentatively re-scheduled for August 21 to 28th.

If you would like to host an Optimist Continental or World Championship in 2024, the deadline for submitting a Bid is May 1st.

The Bids are evaluated and presented to the Members at the 2022 IODA AGM scheduled for July 4th, whereby the Members vote to select the World and Continental Championships.

The Executive Committee, Technical Committee and Regatta Committee held their Mid-Year Meetings in Barcelona, Spain from February 19-21st.

This was the first time since the beginning of the pandemic that they have been able to meet in person and plan the activities for the class.

The day after the Mid-Year meetings concluded, the war broke out in Ukraine following a two year pandemic that continues to effect us all today in different parts of the world.

On behalf of IODA, the Executive Committee wishes our entire global Optimist Family to stay safe during these very difficult times.

The IODA Annual General Meeting is taking place on July 4th in Bodrum, TUR during the World Championship.

The AGM is the highest authority of IODA and the decisions made at this meeting shape the direction of the Class in the future.

If you want to see change in anything that the class does or how it is managed or a class rule change, then this is the time to do it!!

According to Article 16 and 17, fully paid up Members may make a proposal to amend an IODA Article, Championship Condition and /or Class Rule.

To facilitate making a Proposal, we recommend using the Templates that can be found here.

The deadline to submit a Proposal is APRIL 5th.
