PH WINS in Indiana

Attention Local Health Departments! Join the Indiana Public Health Association, the Indiana Department of Health, and the Region V Public Health Training Center this Wednesday, July 14 from 9-9:45am EST to learn more about how to get involved with the next round of PH WINS. Register for the info session here.

This September, the next round of the largest public health workforce survey in the US will be fielded - the Public Health Workforce Interests and Needs Survey (PH WINS). For the first time, small health agencies will be included in addition to mid-size and large local health departments and state health departments.

PH WINS has been fielded to health departments since 2014, and is one of the primary ways the US understands the needs of the workforce - by hearing from the voices of staff themselves. Over 47,000 state and local staff nationwide participated in 2017. Participating agencies will get back a report that can be used for workforce planning or as part of PHAB accreditation.

The Region V Public Health Training Center is coordinating recruitment of health departments in MI, OH, IN, IL, WI, MN. If you would like to commit your health department to participate this fall, complete this survey by July 30. Contact rv-phwins@umich.edu with any questions or see the FAQ.

Public Health Informatics Training (PHIT) Consortium

The Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health at IUPUI is aiming to train 200-300 public health workers by 2026. In order to accomplish this, a network of public health partners are forming the PHIT Consortium, which will consist of multiple academic intuitions and public health agencies and organizations.

Consortium partners will work together to educate and train students and ultimately guide them into placements in the public health field for their careers. Public health partners receive funding for training in informatics, funding for interns, and consulting resources from consortium partners. Find the full list of benefits and duties of PHIT Consortium Members here.
