Symposium on Indian Architecture Today and an exhibition on Indian Architecture was organized by the Consulate General of India in New York in partnership with the Council of Architecture India and Asia Initiatives, a delegation of architects from India were present on the occasion. Eminent architects like Padma Bhushan Hafeez Contractor, Renu Khanna, Mitu Mathur participated in the panel discussion which was moderated by Prof. Geeta Mehta, President of Asia Initiatives and Adjunct Professor of Architecture and Urban Design at Columbia University. Consul General gave the welcome remarks during the event.

Celebration of India's 73rd Independence Day 

India’s 73rd Independence Day was celebrated in Consulate General of India, New York with a flag-hoisting ceremony. The event was attended by Indian cinema actor Anupam Kher and a large number of elected officials including Manhattan Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, State Senator Kevin Thomas, Assemblyman David Weprin and Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer. There was strong representation of the diplomatic corps of New York including many Consul Generals and representatives of other Consulates. Consul General unfurled the national flag and the national anthem was sung. Consul General then read out the address of the President of India. This year’s celebration was indeed special as the ceremony was held outside the Consulate building on 64th Street with several cultural events showcasing India’s rich tradition and culture .

GJEPC organizes 5th edition of India Diamond Week in New York

Deputy Consul General of India, Mr. Shatrughna Sinha attended the 10th India Diamond Week organized by The Gem & Jewelry Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) and Diamond Dealers Club on August 20th 2019 held at the Diamond Dealers Club in New York City. This four-day event held from August 19th to August 22nd 2019 provided a platform to fortify the business relationship with leading American diamond traders in this world’s biggest diamond buying hub.

India - USA Food & Beverage Buyers Sellers Meet

Trade Promotion Council of India (TPCI) in association with Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) organized its first India-US Food and Beverage Buyers Sellers meet at the Consulate General of India, New York. The event was inaugurated by Consul General Mr. Sandeep Chakravorty. This event was attended by top importers/buyers from New York, New Jersey, Texas as well as from West Coast.

TCS New York City Marathon App Wins Gold in Best in Biz Awards 2019

TCS won the award for its new and innovative marathon app which features- runner tracking, a feature that gave users the ability to track unlimited number of runners with updated splits every 5 miles, a runner dashboard page that included live tracking stats, links to create a Spectator Guide as well as Cheer Cards. This independent global business awards program, judged each year by prominent editors and reporters from top-tier publications from around the world, recognized TCS for the third consecutive year.

Amazon opens its biggest global campus in Hyderabad, India

Amazon inaugurated the largest company-owned campus, worldwide, in Hyderabad. Amazon will house more than 15,000 employees in this office. Over the last 15 years we have invested significantly in India across 30 office spaces in 13 different states," said Amit Agarwal, SVP – Amazon India.

Govt relaxes FDI rules in single-brand retail, coal mining, contract manufacturing and digital media

Government relaxes certain rules in FDI policy, the new rules would provide ease of doing business in the country, bring larger FDI inflows and contribute to the growth of investment, income and employment.

  • 100% FDI under automatic route in coal mining and associated infrastructure
  • 100% FDI in contract manufacturing under automatic route
  • Relaxes FDI rules for single brand retail; expands definition of 30% domestic sourcing
  • Allows online retailing under single-brand retail.
  • Relaxes rule of mandatory brick-and-mortar store
  • Approves 26% FDI in digital media
