During her visit to New York on October 15-16, 2019, Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman gave a speech at Columbia University on Indian Economy: Prospects and Challenges. The speech was well attended by students, academics as well as investors and business persons. She also addressed an investor roundtable organized in collaboration with The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and The U.S.-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) where she interacted with the business and investment community in New York.
New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez leads Congressional Delegation Trip to India

After New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez, Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, led a Congressional Delegation trip to India. On his trip, Senator Menendez held a series of meetings with civil society, security and government officials in the country. During his visit, Senator Menendez celebrated Gandhi's 150th birthday, commemorated the 2008 terrorist attack in Mumbai, and met with clean energy partners to discuss how to combat the growing climate change crisis.

Consul General Sandeep Chakravorty attended the Opening Bell Ceremony of NASDAQ to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the listing of SIFY Technologies Limited.
Sify is an Indian information and communications technology company providing end to end ICT solutions including telecom services, data center services, cloud & managed services, transformation integration services and application integration services. Sify Technologies Limited played an important role during the early spread of Internet and e-commerce in India. It has been listed on NASDAQ as SIFY since 1999.

 India may become one of Apple’s key global production hubs as part of China derisking plan.
 

Apple aims to make India one of its key global production hubs. This will include assembly of the latest flagship iPhones in sync with worldwide release schedules and help as a de-risking strategy against the bulk of its production being located in China, currently in a trade spat with the US, said people with knowledge of the matter.
The company has just started commercial production of the iPhone XR locally at the Foxconn facility near Chennai after undertaking trials for several weeks, reflecting a move up the manufacturing value chain in India.
WALMART PILOTS BLOCKCHAIN TO TRACK INDIAN SHRIMP SUPPLY TO U.S.

Walmart is piloting blockchain technology for end-to-end traceability of shrimp sourced in Andhra Pradesh, India, and shipped to select Sam’s Club locations in the U.S. The pilot project is the first known use of blockchain to track shrimp exports from the Indian farmer to an overseas retailer. This should help seafood farmers in the region to strengthen the shrimp supply chain and reinforce customer trust in the product, helping promote India as a preferred source of seafood, while also enhancing food traceability and transparency for consumers in the U.S., according to Walmart.
