Visit of Thiru Edappadi Palaniswami Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu

The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu accompanied by ministers and high-ranking officials from the state, visited New York as part of US Tour between September 3 and 7, to attract business and investments to Tamil Nadu which is focusing on infrastructure development to propel the state’s economic growth trajectory. Business people and potential investors gathered in New York to listen to the pitch made by Chief Minister Thiru Edappadi K. Palaniswami and his top officials in the presence of number of American business people and officials, including former U.S. ambassador to India, Mr. Frank Wisner.

The New York roadshow – an investment seminar – jointly hosted by the Consulate General of India, New York and the U.S.-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF), highlighted Tamil Nadu’s investment policies and initiatives to attract U.S. businesses to invest and provide technology in the state.

16 MoUs signed during Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s U.S. visit in New York

In New York, 16 MoUs worth Rs. 2,780 Crores were signed between Tamil Nadu and US firms in sectors such as financial services, IT solutions, Pharma, Chemicals, Health, LNG, Petro-chemicals and cyber security. Mr. Palaniswami was accompanied by a delegation that included the Ministers of Industries M.C. Sampath, Milk and Dairy Development-Rajenthra Bhalaji, Revenue, Disaster Management and IT R.B. Udhayakumar, Chief Secretary K. Shanmugam, various government secretaries including CM’s secretary S. Vijayakumar and Industries secretary N. Muruganandam. Consul General of India in New York Mr. Sandeep Chakravorty was also present among those who addressed the gathering.

During the afternoon’s investors meet, Mr. Palamiswami spoke about former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s vision for developing Tamil Nadu as the numero uno State in India and his government’s progress in achieving that vision.

Visit of Industry delegation from Indo American Chamber of Commerce (IACC)

The Consulate General of India, New York, facilitated the visit of the Industry delegation in the Automotive & Aerospace Sector from Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC) to Connecticut and Ohio. The delegation comprised of 17 members who explored opportunities for collaboration and partnership with companies in the US automotive and aviation sector.

Mphasis awarded U.S. Patent for its Artificial Intelligence (AI) System for Cognitive Analysis of Data 

Mphasis has been granted U.S patent for its artificial intelligence (AI) system for tracking, managing and analyzing data from unstructured data sources. The newly issued patent US Patent relates to leveraging machine learning algorithms to analyze free text from a variety of communication channels including news and editorial articles, blogs, emails, consumer complaints, and social media. The patented system uses Natural Language Processing (NLP) algorithms to process the data in real-time. The patented system and methods have been deployed at several fortune 500 companies around the globe.

New Jersey governor Phil Murphy visits India for business-trade mission, more than 1200 jobs coming to New Jersey

NJ Governor Phil Murphy spent a week in India visiting six major cities and also met Indian Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi and mentioned he would like to grow the India-NJ business relationship. Three Indian companies with a presence in New Jersey will expand their operations and add more than 1,200 jobs. Tata Consultancy Services to expand its approximately 4,000 workforce in Metro Park by about 700 people, Larsen & Toubro to add 600 technology jobs to its roughly 400 workers and Birlasoft to add 160 jobs in Edison, New Jersey.

Hon’ble Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi was conferred the "Global Goalkeeper" award by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation at the fourth annual Global Goalkeeper Awards on September 24, 2019 for his leadership in India’s massive Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The Global Goalkeeper Award aims to recognize a political leader for his/ her commitment to the global goals through impactful work in their country. The event was organized by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in close co-ordination with Consulate General of India at New York.

Prime Minister delivered the Keynote address at the 2019 Bloomberg Global Business Forum on September 25, 2019. Mr. Michael R. Bloomberg, CEO of Bloomberg L.P. welcomed Hon’ble Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and announced two new initiatives in partnership with the Government of India, focused on strengthening international investment. These two new initiatives – partnering with India to navigate inclusion in global benchmark indices and supporting the development of India’s International Financial Services Center (IFSC) at the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (“GIFT City”) – will leverage Bloomberg’s expertise and connectivity to help international investors access India’s capital markets, in turn providing India’s businesses and government with new funds to invest and grow.

Infosys wins UN Global Climate Action Award for efforts towards climate change


Infosys announced that it has won the United Nations Global Climate Action Award in the ‘Climate Neutral Now’ category. The company is the only corporate from India to earn the recognition for its efforts to combat climate change. Infosys began its action to combat climate change in 2008, with an assessment of its carbon footprint. In 2011, Infosys made a voluntary commitment to the United Nations to become carbon neutral. The announcement of the winners came shortly, after the UN Climate Summit in New York was convened by UN Secretary General António Guterres. The award will be presented to Infosys at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP25) in Santiago, Chile to be held in December 2019.
