#IPI2017 Roundup: The Biggest Parking Event and All That Jazz
The 2017 IPI Conference & Expo, May 21-24, New Orleans, La., was another phenomenal opportunity for the parking community to connect. The event was packed with career insights, new friendships, and deep dives into the most pressing industry issues. More than 3,200 professionals from 35 countries came together for an amazing four days of education, networking, technology, and trends. Thank you to the city of New Orleans -- we certainly let the good times roll! Look for more Conference highlights in the July issue of The Parking Professional magazine.
Thousands of Parking Products and Solutions at IPI Expo
Who could walk the Expo hall without marveling at the extraordinary technology, equipment, and expertise offered by 235 exhibitors! On display were innovative solutions to sustainability, signage, payment systems, tags and decals, doors, gates, charging stations, security cameras, emergency communication systems, electric bikes, cleaning and maintenance vehicles -- you name it, it was on the show floor, along with costumes, games, music, and entertainment. IPI's Attendee Lounge offered a virtual reality peak into the garage of the future -- check out a demonstration of the technology on our Facebook page.

General Sessions: Tackling the Toughest Industry Issues
The 2017 IPI Conference & Expo opened with song and dance -- literally! A local brass band brought the audience to its feet as the Opening General Session kicked off the Conference (watch a recording of the festivities on our Twitter feed). A panel of experts led an engaging discussion on autonomous vehicles, the rise of Uber and Lyft, adaptive reuse, millennial spending habits, government regulation, and connecting underserved populations. The inaugural IPI Parking Solutions Competition closed out the Conference but opened the door to the next big idea in parking. Adam Rosenfield of Access MIT won for his presentation on rethinking campus parking. We're eager to see what next year's competition brings -- submissions open Oct. 16, 2017.

Spread the Word: Local News Media Cover #IPI2017
IPI brings the parking industry together to advance the profession in many ways, including positive and informative news media coverage. Though our usual media is more focused on the value of parking expertise and why Parking Matters®, typically local conference media coverage is more lighthearted and this year was no exception. The 2017 IPI Conference & Expo generated coverage about the role of parking professionals from several New Orleans news outlets. Check out this feature on the Biz New Orleans website, see fun photos of attendees at the Mardi Gras Madness social event on FOX-8's Facebook page, and watch "Wild Bill" feature the IPI Expo on the WGNO-TV (ABC affiliate) news-with-a-twist segment.
