Let your steadfast love come to us, O Lord. Save us as you promised, we will trust your word.
Worship with Focus on Hungary
This Lenten season at IPLC we have a special focus on how the cross connects us to people around the world.  We'll hear this Sunday from Seminary Student Ole Schenk (pictured above) about his experience in Hungary.  In Hungarian Lutheran churches, the rite of Confession & Forgiveness occurs just before Holy Communion (rather than at the beginning of worship, as is typical in many Lutheran church in the United States), and includes recitation of the Ten Commandments and admission that we all break them all. In most Lutheran churches in Hungary, every week the hymn after the sermon is to the tune "Liebster Jesus, Wir Sind Hier," ("Dearest Jesus, We Are Here"), which we'll sing as the hymn of the day this Sunday to #510 "Word Of God Come Down to Earth." Lutherans in Hungary will open a church service, or a meeting, or even greet one another in the street with "A mighty fortress is our God!" as a kind of code phrase.  This Sunday, which is also the anniversary of Luther's death (Feb. 18, 1546, at the age of sixty-two)  we'll sing "A Mighty Fortress" as our sending hymn.

Celebrating African American Heritage
February is Black History Month.  In worship at IPLC we give thanks for the witness of sisters and brothers in Christ of African descent with special music and prayers and dancing, and we pray for a world of racial justice and harmony, as envisioned by the gospel.

Sowing Tears, Reaping Joy
Sunday Study: The Bible & Brahms' Requim
Music has long been a way Christianity has been expressed in the world. On Sunday mornings this Lenten season (Sundays through March 25) we will follow the famous "German Requiem" on a tour of biblical prompts about death, grief, the brevity of life, and faith for here and here after. Through music and Scripture, we move from graveside and grieving to new perspectives and home beyond.  Join us in the Chapel from 9:15-10:15 am.

Prayer of the Day for Sunday
Holy God, heavenly Father, in the waters of the flood you saved the chosen, and in the wilderness of temptation you protected your Son from sin. Renew us in the gift of baptism. May your holy angels be with us, that the wicked foe may have no power over us, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.  Amen.
