DOT Proposes New Rule to Improve Access to Vehicles for People with Disabilities
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has released for public comment a proposed rule to improve access to motor vehicles, including rental cars, for people with disabilities. The rule proposes changes to NHTSA’s Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard to facilitate the use of adaptive equipment in rental cars and simplify transport of wheelchairs and scooters. Court to Decide if Car-sharing is Car-renting
Turo, which lets people offer their private cars for public sharing, started operating at Logan Airport in Boston, leading to a legal fight over whether car-sharing is effectively car renting. It’ll affect how car-sharing operations operate at airports and potentially, if they can operate there at all. The case was heard Friday and a decision is expected in coming weeks or months.
