Questions And Answers With You in 2022 - Week 9 Answer
Idaho Parents Unlimited
Engage + Educate + Bridge + Lead
For week 9 we asked: "Can I be paid to be my child's caregiver?"
The current Public Health Emergency (PHE) has been extended through April 2022.
The Biden administration has promised a 60 day notice to states prior to the expiration of the PHE.
One of the temporary allowances granted In Idaho during the current PHE is that the parent may be the paid caregiver, when providing PCS (personal care services) as employed through a home health agency. A nurse reviewer through the Department of Health and Welfare will work to determine eligibility for these services.

Focus on #RareDiseaseDay2022 - Amber and Angela
In honor of #RareDiseaseDay2022, we would like to feature Amber and her mom, Angela Tripp Lindig.
Angela is one of the fierce and brilliant Family Advocate leaders we are fortunate to partner with in the WSRGN. She is the Director of Idaho Parents Unlimited , which supports, empowers, educates and advocates to enhance the quality of life for Idahoans with disabilities and their families. Her daughter Amber's story has been an inspiration to us all over the years and is a prime example of why finding a genetic diagnosis for #RareDiseases matters.
Amber received a diagnosis of developmental delay as an infant, but that was changed to atypical Rett Syndrome when she was 7. However this was not a perfect fit. When Amber was 23 years old, newer, more detailed genetic testing was finally available to her. Whole exome sequencing (WES) revealed that she has HNRNPH2 Related Disorder, an incredibly rare condition. Receiving the correct diagnosis allowed her parents to learn about symptoms they were not aware of, including cortical visual impairment. Therapies tailored to her needs allowed Amber to improve her communication skills in just one year.
As a result of their family's diagnostic journey, Angela is working on a campaign with the Yellow Brick Road Project about why diagnosis matters and is working to help families access WES testing. Their family is also now able to connect with a growing network of families around the world with children with the same condition.
