Pest Management Solutions for Specialty Crops and Specialty Uses
Greetings!

The following is a recap of news and updates from the IR-4 Project during the month of August.
Files Arrive at New NC State Headquarters
In early August, the last files and file cabinets from IR-4's Rutgers University headquarters made the multi-state journey from New Jersey to North Carolina and were installed at the new headquarters at NC State University.

The move was a success thanks to the coordination of staff at both Rutgers and NC State. Thank you to everyone who made this happen!
Virtual Crop Tour: Hemp

On August 26, IR-4 hosted the second in our quarterly series of virtual crop tours. This tour focused on hemp and was attended by more than 300 representatives from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, land grant universities, specialty crop registrants and other industry representatives.

The tour covered the production, harvest and uses of industrial hemp, as well as the history of hemp in the United States. A recording of the tour can be viewed on YouTube at this link.
Regional Awards: Stephen Flanagan
Stephen Flanagan, assistant regional field coordinator with the IR-4 Western Region, received the IR-4 Meritorious Service Award for his contributions to the IR-4 Project at large and specifically for his service to the Western Region.

Stephen has a long history of work in agriculture and in contributing to the improvement of agricultural pest control for specialty crops. He joined the IR-4 Project Western Region in 2002 and oversees magnitude of residue and performance studies in support of specialty crop pesticide registrations. 

Over his years with IR-4, Stephen has driven innovation and helped our organization pursue excellence in field research activities. He routinely serves as a resource for IR-4 field research directors, study directors, biologists and others on the practical applied approaches for potential projects. Stephen critically evaluates potential projects and often helps the IR-4 Project take a hard look at whether a potential project has true merit. Congratulations, Stephen!

Environmental Horticulture Program News
Bacterial Disease Efficacy Summary & Literature Review

From 2008 to 2020, 70 products were tested through the IR-4 Environmental Horticulture Program as drench or foliar applications against bacterial pathogens. This summary includes a review of experiments conducted from 2005 to 2017.
