Executive Director's Message: A New Era for IR-4
Two years ago, many IR-4 Project stakeholders were stunned when it was announced that IR-4’s national coordinating headquarters was moving from its longtime home at Rutgers University to NC State University. This move was necessitated by Rutgers as the university was unable to host IR-4 headquarters due to restrictions on our U.S. Department of Agriculture grant that did not allow Rutgers to collect indirect costs or service fees. NC State was not under the same fiscal pressures as Rutgers and the university administration agreed to welcome and host IR-4 headquarters for an initial period of 10 years.
We are pleased to announce that effective October 1, 2021, the planned and orderly transition is complete and all IR-4 Project headquarters operations are now functioning out of NC State.

Research Priorities Identified During Prioritization Workshops
The IR-4 Project held two prioritization workshops during the month of September to identify upcoming research needs and priorities.
During the 2021 Food Use Workshop, research priorities for residue studies, efficacy and crop safety research, and integrated solutions projects for 2022 were identified. Project prioritization lists, event materials, and presentation recordings are available on the event webpage.

International Approval Underway to Improve Disease Management on Citrus
Two years ago, citrus growers in the United States received a new tool in the fight against brown rot (Phytophthora spp.) thanks to the collaboration of researchers and the IR-4 Project. Now, work is underway to approve this tool for international use, improving trade for citrus growers.

New IR-4 HQ Employees
The following employees joined the IR-4 HQ team during the month of September:

Robert "Scott" Muir
Scott Muir joined IR-4 headquarters on September 1 as a quality assurance (QA) auditor with the Quality Assurance Unit. In this capacity, Scott is responsible for performing various types of QA audits of IR-4 Project generated raw data and reports to assist in ensuring the quality and integrity of submissions to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Scott is a QA professional with a strong scientific background in laboratory management, method and equipment validation, coordination of document workflows and training management, as well as bio-safety. He has worked in QA for several of our industry partners, and most recently worked for four years for a contract QA firm implementing quality systems and ensuring compliance for GLP (EPA/FDA) in agricultural chemical and biotech industries. Scott has a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from NC State University. We are delighted to welcome him to the IR-4 team!

Juliet Thompson
Juliet Thompson joined the NC State IR-4 headquarters team on September 30 as the quality assurance (QA) research specialist with the QA Unit.
Juliet has worked for the IR-4 Project since 2002 in multiple capacities, including working in the Office of the Executive Director. She has been a member of the QA Unit since 2004. Juliet has received numerous professional certifications related to her work with the QA Unit and brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our growing headquarters team. We are delighted to have Juliet with us at NC State!

Quesada-Ocampo Picked for '40 Under 40' Honor
Lina Quesada-Ocampo, NC State associate professor and vegetable pathology extension specialist, was named to this year's list of the Fruit + Vegetable 40 Under 40 honorees.

Fusarium Literature Review & Efficacy Summary - 2021
From 2001 to 2020, numerous products representing 40 active ingredients were evaluated in greenhouse and field trials against several Fusarium species causing rots and wilt on environmental horticulture crops, and wilt and root rot on vegetables.
