Children with autism are significantly more likely than their neurotypical peers to leave a safe environment without notice—a behavior known as wandering or elopement. Many children with ASD also have a strong affinity for water. This combination puts children with autism at an increased risk of drowning.
We’re sharing with you a public awareness campaign developed by the Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services, Office of the Child Advocate, Department of Children and Families, Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, Department of Public Health, and the Federation for Children with Special Needs.
