RN Luncheon
A second luncheon honoring IRCC RNs was held Thursday, 13 April with 40 in attendance. Coordinator Annie Dalter opened the program with welcoming remarks stating the purpose of this event is for IRCC nurses to network, share our stories and to celebrate our collective achievements across various multi-disciplinary experiences.
Dee Moskowitz, RN, Col, US Army Nurse Corps (Ret) was honored as “Nurse in the Spotlight”. Dee joined the US Army Nurse Corps in 1968, served in Vietnam with the 18th surgical hospital which is a mobile transport unit. She retired in 1994 after 26 years of service. She and her husband moved to IRCC in 2004 whereby she participated in many activities and served on numerous committees, including membership on the Board of Directors.
Following networking and lunch, Kay Garner, MS. Ed, Psychology, presented a discussion on self-care, “You deserve care too.” Kay emphasized effective caregiving to others including loved ones requires preparation with information and education. It also requires taking a self-inventory, accepting our strengths and limitations. Caregivers also need to acknowledge changes in relationships, identify a strong support system, and find ways to reduce stress. And foremost, Avoid Guilt!
A Fall Event will be planned in October or early November, Annie Dalter will take the lead to coordinate and will enlist volunteers to help bring another successful event!
