IREC applauds California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC)'s sweeping updates to Rule 21 today—changes that have been years in the making—which represent a radical shift in how states handle interconnection and significantly modernize California's energy policy. The Rule will provide a model U.S. regulators can look to as they work to enable more renewable energy on the grid.

We're also excited to announce our participation in North American Smart Energy Week in October, where we'll speak on storage interconnection, and the NASCSP Annual Training Conference next week, where we'll discuss virtual clean energy training opportunities.

Finally, don't miss your chance to become a member of the Sustainable Energy Action Committee (SEAC) Assembly (deadline extended to tomorrow!). And mark your calendars for Energy Efficiency Day and Weatherization Day—a great time to check out IREC's resources on both critical topics!
IREC Applauds Sweeping Updates
to California’s Rule 21 Announced Today
Today, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) issued changes to Rule 21—the rules under which distributed energy resources like solar power and energy storage may interconnect to California’s electric grid. The changes represent a radical shift in how states handle interconnection policy, with a number of unprecedented changes that will provide a model regulators across the U.S. can look to as they work to enable more renewable energy on the grid. IREC was deeply involved in developing and advocating for many of the changes adopted and applauds these efforts by the CPUC!
Deadline Extended to Help Shape Work of National Forum Developing Clean Energy Solutions
Looking to help shape the work of a national forum developing solutions to code and permitting challenges facing solar, energy storage, and other clean energy technologies? The deadline has been extended until tomorrow, 9/25 to apply to become a part of the Sustainable Energy Action Committee (SEAC) Assembly.
IREC at North America Smart Energy Week
Brian Lydic, IREC Chief Regulatory Engineer, and Sky Stanfield, IREC attorney and Partner with Shute, Mihaly & Weinberger, LLP, will speak at North America Smart Energy Week covering Guidelines for Solar and Storage Interconnection, on October 14.

There are regulatory and technical challenges associated with the interconnection of energy storage and solar-plus-storage on the grid. With experts from utilities, research, and the renewable energy and storage industries, this panel will discuss ongoing efforts that will reduce the costs and time needed to process applications and still safely connect to the distribution grid.

IREC at NASCSP 2020 Annual Training Conference
IREC’s Director of Credentialing Anna Sullivan will be leading a session at the National Association for State Community Services Programs (NASCSP) Annual Training Conference 2020. The session, Taking Training & Technical Assistance Virtual, on Monday, September 28, will provide an overview of virtual training and technical assistance (T&TA) options to help your organization get started or to move further in this direction.
This October: Celebrate Energy Efficiency Day
& Weatherization Day!
Energy Efficiency Day is October 7!

Energy efficiency is needed to reach a goal of 100% clean energy. It is the cheapest, quickest way to meet our energy needs, cut consumer bills, and reduce pollution. Energy efficiency is also an economic engine, supporting more than 2.4 million jobs nationwide.
IREC is creating an interactive National Energy Efficiency Career Map that highlights the breadth of rewarding career opportunities in the energy efficiency sectors. The map will help us grow the clean energy workforce we need to reach our clean energy goals.
October 30 is Weatherization Day!

Weatherization is the practice of protecting a building and its interior from the elements, and of modifying a building to reduce energy consumption and optimize energy efficiency.
IREC offers innovative training for Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) administrative professionals—a series of interactive online training modules to help perform jobs more effectively and increase program quality and impact. Learn more below.
Overcoming the Barriers to
Energy Storage Interconnection
The energy storage industry has advanced rapidly, demonstrating the critical role storage technologies have to play in enabling a 100% clean energy future. However, the process of connecting storage to the electric grid continues to be sluggish, complex, and unclear due to lack of clarity in relevant policies. A new project supported by the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Energy Technologies Office is bringing together key players to tackle this challenge.
