OCTOBER 2020
This month, IREC Vice President - Workforce, Laure-Jeanne Davignon, shares insights on the role of workforce development strategies in achieving 100% clean energy commitments.

We're also excited to share that this Friday, IREC is hosting a meeting of the Customer Grid Edge (CGE) committee—a group of experts addressing issues at the customer interface to smart energy grids.

Earlier this month, we celebrated Energy Efficiency Day, and this Friday, we will commemorate another important date—Weatherization Day! Be sure to check out IREC's resources on both topics.

Lastly‚ Election Day is almost here. Get all of the information you need below to go out and vote!
Workforce Development:
The Foundation of a Clean Energy Future
An increasing number of entities have set 100% clean energy goals to mitigate the effects of climate change and realize economic, public health, and other societal benefits. To make this happen, any significant effort to reach unprecedented levels of clean energy adoption requires investments in every phase of workforce development—from attracting diverse workers to the industry to making connections between employers and workers with the skills they need.

Make a Plan to Vote!
Election Day is next Tuesday!

As a non-partisan organization, IREC does not endorse specific candidates, but we strongly encourage you to vote. This election has significant implications for climate change and the growth of clean energy.

Get all of the election information you need with Vote 411—register, check your voter registration status, and see what's on your local ballot.
This Friday Is Weatherization Day!
Weatherization reduces energy burdens for families, increases energy equity, creates thousands of jobs, reduces greenhouse gas emissions and stress on the power grid, makes homes more resilient to the effects of climate change. The U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE)'s Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP), the country’s largest residential whole-house energy efficiency program, has operated for 40 years and weatherizes about 35,000 homes every year. Stay tuned for a blog post on weatherization this week!
Energy Efficiency Plays Crucial Role
in a 100% Clean Energy Future
Energy efficiency has a crucial role to play in achieving our goal of a 100% clean energy future. Energy efficiency saves money, cuts pollution and cleans the air we breathe, creates jobs, and reduces the energy burden on low-income households—resulting in greater equity. According to the U.S. DOE, it is one of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to combat climate change. It is an integral component of IREC’s mission and work.
You're Invited:
Customer Grid Edge Meeting This Friday
Customer Grid Edge (CGE) is a committee of experts addressing issues at the customer interface to smart energy grids. CGE serves residential and commercial grid customers, developing educational resources and reviewing and proposing U.S. and international grid standards.

Participants include public utility and energy service providers, developers of distributed energy resources (DER), equipment suppliers and communication companies, and smart grid researchers.

IREC will be hosting a CGE meeting this Friday, October 30 from 1:30-3 p.m. EDT. The meeting will include a presentation from Kay Aikin of Introspective Systems on options for integrating load flexibility in microgrids, with examples from the Isle au Haut Microgrid, an in-progress microgrid located 6 miles off the coast of Maine and designed to be 100% renewable. It will also feature a presentation on an RFP opportunity from the Centre for Energy Advancement through Technological Innovation (CEATI).

All are welcome. Join the meeting at the Zoom link below!
