BLESSING OF OUR NEW MARY
In honour of 60th anniversary, our patron saint got a makeover this week. The statue of the Immaculate Heart of Mary was replaced and blessed after the school Mass on Thursday. This initiative was one of our goals for our celebration of 60 years as Immaculata.
Our previous statue, which moved from the original location on Sutherland over here, had some dings and scuffs, as well as was missing pieces. This new statue, we are happy to report, has all her fingers and toes.
This statue of Mary is a beautiful replacement to our equally beautiful, but in need of retirement, previous one.
Fr. S. performs the blessing immediately following Mass on Thursday.
Grade 10s begin the procession around the school.

ATHLETIC STORE NOW OPEN
Dear Immaculata Community,

I am happy to be opening up the athletic department’s first online store. This has been done in partnership with Kahunaverse Sports. The store will be open a few times each year, with this being our inaugural test run. You will be able to find products such as our usual hoodies, with extra products such as sweatshirts, sweatpants, quarter-zips, and backpacks. I am excited to see how this works out and hope to see some of the new gear around the school.

The store closes on Monday, May 9, so get your orders in soon! Once the store closes we expect a 4 week delivery time, so we will be able to hand out the clothes at the school in early June. Some of the graphics are not exactly as they will be on the clothes, but provide a reference.

If you have any extra questions you can contact Mr. Freire at pfreire@cisnd.ca.

Thank you for your support!

STAY. LOVE. SERVE.
MAY 10-14, 2021
We would LOVE to include you. Can you help us?
One of the things we will be doing to serve Mamas for Mamas is hosting a DIAPER DRIVE to collect essential items for children and families who live in poverty right here in our own city of Kelowna. We invite you to support this worthy cause by bringing in to school: DIAPERS (Newborn and Size 5 are needed most). Feel like a box/bag of diapers is too much of a donation for you right now? (It’s true that diapers are expensive!)….No problem. Might you be able to donate any of these lesser items also identified by Mamas as in need of currently?
Starting Monday, May 3 please bring in your items and drop them in the front foyer of the school. Let’s stack those diapers (and other things) to the roof and surround our statue of Mary with our love for others!! GO MUSTANGS. The last day to donate will be Thursday, May 13. We will happily deliver your items to the Mamas on Friday, May 14, 2021.
Mamas for Mamas is a specialized poverty relief agency and an all-inclusive community for mothers and caregivers. We envision a future where no mama or child is left behind.

KAYAKING IN JPIIs STEPS
Just as John Paul II enjoyed taking his Srodowisko kayaking in Poland, Immac staff enjoyed taking the grade 12s on the water in the Okanagan!

PHOTOGRAPHY 9
The dreamy and surreal textures created by ink dissolving into water are unlike anything else. When you drip ink or paint into the water, you never know if you will experience a slow ballooning effect or something that looks more like sinister tentacles spreading throughout. The density of the ink you use, the way the colors are introduced into the water, the temperature, and the currents or movement are all variables that will determine what happens the few seconds after the medium hits the water. The Photography 9 students spent some time creating and photographing these cool movements, working with manual settings and different shutter speeds. What they came up with were some creative, colourful, and fantastic photos!

Mrs. Vos and her Biology students did a great job planting flower pots and delivered them to 60 of the ladies at Good Samaritan for an early Mother’s Day gift on Friday.
Students and staff walking over to Good Samaritan across the street to deliver the flower pots on Friday afternoon.
A big thank you to BETTER EARTH GARDENS & TROPICALS who generously donated the 60 flower plants that were used by the Bio classes to plant the pots.
