IRIS 10 Nears Completion, Onboarding to Ramp Up in 2025

Happy New Year from your IRIS team! In the first IRIS Update for 2025, we are excited to share the latest updates about the ongoing IRIS 10 rollout, onboarding the remaining counties to the new system this year, and information about a Microsoft update that may create graphic display issues for some IRIS 9 users.

IRIS 10 Rollout - 2024 Recap

The rolling release of IRIS 10 began in January 2024, and over the past year, nine counties have transitioned onto IRIS 10, while our team has continued to build the new system and provide support for IRIS 9 users. As we kick off 2025, an estimated 90% of IRIS 10 is complete, allowing for an easier testing and onboarding process this year. As of this publication, the following modules are ready for use: Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Cost Accounting, Equipment Management, Road Inventory, and Fuel Import; with the StreetWise and Service Requests modules expected to be ready for testing in the coming weeks. We aim to have all counties onto IRIS 10 by the end of 2025.

IRIS 9: Graphic display issues related to Microsoft update

Among the reasons for the updated version of IRIS is that the current IRIS 9 desktop client relies on older technology that is becoming obsolete and increasingly difficult to support, and this can be particularly true when supporting tools used to run IRIS 9 are updated. A recent Microsoft update (Windows 11, version 24H2) to its remote desktop protocol (RDP) is causing graphic display issues on some IRIS 9 screens.

While this will not affect how IRIS 9 functions, and you can still perform your daily work, it can make using the impacted screens inconvenient. Unfortunately, the display issues associated with the update are not unique to IRIS 9, but rather part of a larger issue with Microsoft’s RDP

If the Microsoft update has not been applied to your computer, you should not notice any changes. However, once you’ve run the Microsoft RDP update, if you begin noticing issues with the display, the only option to resolve these issues in IRIS 9 will be to work with your IT department to roll back the update.

Rolling back an update will not always be a realistic option, so if you do encounter graphic display issues, we can also expedite your move to the web-based IRIS 10, which removes the need for the RDP. If you’re interested in making the move to IRIS 10 due to graphic display issues with IRIS 9, please contact ryde@oregoncounties.org for more information.

IRIS 10: Volunteer testers now being accepted

As mentioned above, our goal is to have every county currently using IRIS 9 moved to IRIS 10 by the end of the year. The immediate focus is on transitioning counties currently testing IRIS 10 successfully to the new system. We will also begin surveying a new group of counties in the coming weeks to begin the next group of testers. Not all counties will receive a survey for the next group, but if you do, please complete the survey as thoroughly and timely as possible.

Finally, we can now accept counties that would like to volunteer for testing. The first two groups of testers included smaller counties focused on the most commonly used modules, but with IRIS 10 nearing completion, the focus in the coming months will be to have as many counties as possible begin their testing period. If you’re interested in having your county be part of the next group of IRIS 10 testers or you have a specific timeframe during which you’d like to schedule your testing period, please email ryde@oregoncounties.org.
