IRMA Award Honorable Mention:
Village of Carol Stream Public Works Department
In 2022, IRMA received the most IRMA Award Applications in recent years. It is our pleasure to highlight all Member programs as they all provide value in reducing municipal risk and increasing safety.

The Village of Carol Stream created an online safety concern reporting process utilizing experts in HR, IT, and Public Works Departments. This new portal streamlines the reporting process of safety concerns and tracks corrective actions to completion. The program has resulted in significant benefits with employee relations as well as safety.

How IRMA is Helping its Members
In response to the bleak outlook for cyber liability insurance, the IRMA Executive Board recommended creating an IT/Cyber Committee (“ITCC”) to examine cyber security and liability issues facing the membership. At the May Committee meeting, the Committee was presented with two vendors to explore to make a part of a preferred provider program to assist members with best practices, training, auditing, and assessing cyber security processes and controls, KnowBe4 and Cyber Concierge. Programs were developed with each vendor at reduced pricing for IRMA members.

Beyond Employee Resilience: A Focus on Mental Wellness

Employee mental wellness is so much more complicated than simply focusing on resilience training. Employees are seeking a balance between their work obligations and their personal lives, and they are willing to bail on a job that doesn’t feel supportive of this balance. Managers and leaders have an opportunity to positively impact their employees’ overall mental wellness within the sphere of work life.

Illinois Appellate Court Awards Benefits to Claimant

In a recent opinion, the Illinois Appellate Court reversed the Circuit Court of Cook County and reinstated a divided Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission decision awarding benefits to a claimant who slipped and fell in a train commuter parking space.
Building Code Enforcement Win

Much like a parking ticket, the issuance of a building code violation carries with it a presumption of guilt. The First District Appellate Court recently held that where a residential property is deemed by a municipality to be a fire hazard, the property owner has no claim for a violation of his right to due process when he is given the opportunity to challenge that presumption in an administrative proceeding.
