A New Year and a New IRMA Chair
|
Happy New Year to all. We start 2024 with a new IRMA Chair, Peggy Halik, who has over 30 years of municipal experience and is also the current ILCMA President. Peggy has worked for the Village of Woodridge for approximately 20 years and for the City of Naperville before that. We want to thank Mike Braiman for his leadership as IRMA’s Chair for the past two years, during which we accomplished so much, including new grant programs, streamlined trainings and risk management visits, new innovative pilot programs and the IT/Cyber Subcommittee.
In the next year, we will continue to provide excellent customer service as well as pertinent risk management advice and trainings. In addition, we will consider revisions to our revenue base and a rate stabilization fund; we will also issue an RFP for panel counsel and kick off our new Benchmark Analytics Program. It will be an exciting and productive year.

IRMA Budget, Member Contributions and Interest Income: What You Need to Know
|
|
The Board of Directors approved IRMA’s final budget on December 12, which includes a recommendation from the Finance Committee to return $2.3 million in interest income to the membership. This interest income return is the lowest return in many years, primarily because of a necessary transfer of $9 million to the contingency fund due to two new reverse conviction cases.

Benchmark Analytics
Kicks Off
|
|
One of the most volatile exposures for IRMA members is police liability claims. Overall, IRMA spends more than $2 million per year on police liability claims. In 2024, IRMA is focusing on reducing these risks. The membership voted to invest in the Benchmark Analytics iMPACT® program as a means of reducing the exposure for police liability and workers’ compensation claims.

Confined Space Model Policy Update
Public Sector workplaces include a wide range of job types and therefore, a wide range of safety hazards. One of the most hazardous and potentially deadly job hazards is entering confined spaces.
If proper protocol, policies, inventories, and equipment are not in place or practice, the lives of your employees could be at risk.
Start this year on the right foot by reviewing your Confined Space Policy and making any necessary measures to recognize and mitigate the risks.
