COVID 19:
Navigating the "Endemic" in the Workplace
|
|
Let’s face it, everyone is exhausted by two years of pandemic precautions and restrictions. As we enter the third, and hopefully, final year of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have learned a lot about how the virus infects people, how to stay safe, and what measures need to be implemented for long-term safety in crowded and busy environments like in the workplace and healthcare settings. While restrictions are relaxing, all Illinois employers are still obligated to create and maintain a safe work environment.

Annual Revenue Base Worksheets Due July 15
Reminder – Similar to last year, all COVID revenue continues to be excluded from members revenue bases. Please make sure to clearly list these deductions on your revenue worksheet. FIDO Authentication Should Decrease Cyber Risks

Recent Events: Workplace Violence
|
|
In June, the FBI released a report showing alarming data that public shootings were on the rise in 2021. No employer is immune from such events. Since March, two Illinois employers have experienced workplace violence in the form of active shooters - Burr Ridge and most recently, Bolingbrook. Last month we encouraged members to revisit their workplace violence policies and training, this month we provide additional steps to take now to prevent an incident and protect employees.

Storm Cleanup
In Illinois, severe storms present in several ways including heavy precipitation with potential flooding, lightening, hail, and strong winds. Between April - June is tornado season and nearly half of all thunderstorms experienced in Illinois occur from June - August. These storms can cause major damage. When cleanup activities are underway, be sure employees exercise caution. Reference OSHA's Keeping Workers Safe during Disaster Cleanup and Recovery to keep everyone safe.

Extreme Heat
Heat-related illnesses can be deadly, but it can also be prevented. Take extra precautions this summer with employees working outdoors. Revisit the signs, symptoms, and control methods of heat related illnesses. Determine heat stress levels for employees each day, taking into consideration the forecasted temperature, heat index, employee acclimation, and planned work activities. Implement controls and follow OSHA's Water. Rest. Shade method whenever possible.
