IRS TAX DEADLINE CHANGE
& RELATED UPDATES

We hope you and yours are doing well during this truly trying time. Our firm would like to update you with regard to our current office procedures and newly announced tax deadline information from the IRS.

In light of the Governor's mandated shut-down of all non-essential businesses, our office remains temporarily closed and our staff is working remotely in efforts to keep themselves and their loved ones safe. Please be advised that all in-house office tax appointments are cancelled; however, your previously scheduled appointment will be honored via telephone with your accountant. You will be contacted via telephone by your accountant to review all items and discuss your returns. As in the past we will continue to deliver your tax returns electronically via our client vault portal.

If you have not yet sent us your tax documents we ask that you utilize electronic means to do so. We suggest the following:
·         Upload items to your client vault portal
·         Attach all files in one email and send them to: aremsen@perlsonllp.com
·         Fax them to: 516-541-7760

We highly suggest that you do not send your items via USPS, UPS, FedEx or other couriers as we are unable to predict if someone will be in the office to retrieve them. If this is your only option, please contact your accountant for more information. For your safety, please do not leave any unattended packages at our office.

We also respectfully request that you do not drop off your tax information at the office. During this time of recommended social distancing it is not practical, nor safe, for our staff to be present in the office to handle your documents in this manner. Instead please utilize one of the recommended methods listed above. If you are truly unable to do so, please contact your accountant to make alternative arrangements.

The best mode of communication is via e-mail. As our staff is working remotely many face challenges with taking care of family and home schooling – we imagine you may be dealing with the same issues. Please expect delays but know we are working diligently to timely address your needs.

The US Treasury and NYS have announced a delayed filing date and tax payment deadline until July 15th. What does this mean? Ordinarily individual income taxpayers must submit their 2019 returns and pay amounts owed by April 15 th. Both individual and business taxpayers now have until July 15 th to file and make payments without interest or penalties. 

This postponement on filing and making payments applies to federal and NYS returns. We expect that most other states will follow suit with this timeline and will continue to keep you posted as updates become available.
