WHAT'S HAPPENING?
IS AI MAKING US LAZY? by Olga Luz Tirado
When GPS devices first became popular, I noticed something. Though they were helpful, the more I relied on them, the less I trusted my own sense of direction.
Now we have ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Siri, Alexa and countless other AI tools that can write, edit, summarize, strategize and organize.
So, does AI make us lazy? It can—if we let it do all the thinking.
I use AI in my own work but I use my brain first. I write the draft, determine the strategy and decide what I want to say. Then I use AI to tighten, organize or clean it up.
That distinction matters because AI can get it wrong. It can miss tone, misidentify names and even “hallucinate” facts that sound legitimate but are completely false. The responsibility still rests with us to review, verify and correct the work.
CENTER FOR COMMUNITY ALTERNATIVES TO HOST COMMUNITY FORWARD
The Center for Community Alternatives invites supporters to Community Forward, an inspiring evening celebrating leadership, progress, and the power of collective action.
This year’s event will honor Peter Scher and JPMorganChase for their impactful leadership and support of critical justice reform efforts, including their endorsement of the Clean Slate Act—a landmark legislative victory for CCA and communities across New York State.
Explore the sponsorship opportunities or visit Community Forward’s event website to learn how you can support CCA's mission of building safer, stronger communities where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
SAFETYCONNECT’S RAPID GROWTH SIGNALS A PROACTIVE REVOLUTION IN CONSTRUCTION
The program began at a single project site in late 2024. After demonstrating operational benefits, CMA expanded its use of SafetyConnect throughout its portfolio within weeks.
The expansion also caught the attention of BriefGlance, where writer Debra Allen examined what the partnership could signal about the construction industry’s shift from reactive safety practices toward more proactive, data-driven risk management.
Allen writes that construction safety has traditionally relied heavily on hindsight—from paper records to incident reports completed after the fact—but emerging technology is creating opportunities to identify and address risks earlier.
NEW YORK’S TOURISM INDUSTRY CELEBRATES EXCELLENCE IN CORNING
More than 200 tourism professionals gathered in Corning, NY, for the 2026 New York State Tourism Excellence Awards & Summit, hosted by Explore Steuben and the Corning Museum of Glass.
Olga Luz Tirado, President of OComm Solutions, presented an update on the “Untold Stories” initiative on behalf of the Diversity, Equity, Accessibility & Inclusion (DEAI) Committee.
She also presented the Excellence in Tourism Equity and Inclusion Award to the National Comedy Center for “One Laugh at a Time,” a monthly program designed for people living with memory loss and their caregivers. The program uses the museum’s immersive technology, comedy archives and personalized experiences to foster joy, recognition and human connection.
Congratulations to Gary Hahn, the National Comedy Center and all of this year’s Tourism Excellence Award recipients.
What happens when you step away from the #mommyboss grind and reconnect with the wisdom of your ancestors?
In Get Rooted: Reclaim Your Soul, Serenity, and Sisterhood Through the Healing Medicine of the Grandmothers, author Robyn Moreno chronicles her 260-day spiritual journey rooted in the ancient Mexica (Aztec) calendar and the healing traditions of her Mexican grandmothers.
Through the practice of curanderismo, Moreno explores sustos—or soul losses—and ser, our true essence. By looking to her past, she begins deciding which traditions and medicines she wants to pass on to her daughters—and which she is ready to leave behind.
Personal, joyful and deeply reflective, Get Rooted is a story about reclaiming identity, honoring ancestral wisdom and finding your way back to yourself.
