Dear IS Families,

The school year is well underway, and students have been busy taking pre-tests, learning their routines, and building new friendships. Each student was issued a district Chromebook and has been learning how technology can enhance their educational experience.  Student Chromebooks will primarily remain in the building this year with occasional assignments being completed at home on the device. 

Back to School Forms: 

Thank you to everyone who has completed our Back to School Forms, if you have not yet filled this out, please complete the brief form here.  

Chromebook Insurance Info: 

Our school district is offering Chromebook insurance this school year. We are encouraging all families to purchase the coverage.  

Just $20 a year covers accidental damage. Families can purchase device insurance at www.one2onerisk.com.

What is covered? 

All physical components of the device due to accidental damage, cracked screens, fire, lightning, liquid damage, electrical surge, theft of device WITH a police report

Open House 

On Thursday, October 6th from 6:00 - 7:45 p.m., CVIS will be hosting families for our Open House.  Come tour the school, meet your student’s teachers, and check out some of the great work that students have done so far this year.  Be sure to stop by the book fair on the gym stage and check out the cafeteria for information from our PTG, Cub Scouts, and Nutrition Group! 

The MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) teachers will be sharing information

about Title I services in the Intermediate School in Room 103. To learn more about our school’s Title 1 programming, click here. 

CVIS PTG Notes:

The Book Fair is coming! 

CVIS Book  Fair will start on September 30th and run through October 7th.  Please see the schedule and information about the book fair linked here. In addition to the daytime hours, the book fair will be open from 6-7:30 during the IS Open House. 

Meet our Team 

Mrs. Churilla is in her second year of serving as the School Counselor at the Intermediate School. Mrs. Churilla is passionate about making sure all students feel respected, connected, and heard and have equal access to the resources they need to reach their highest potential, both inside and outside the classroom. With a background in special education and Restorative Practices, she has worked in various schools throughout western Pennsylvania, predominantly with students in grades K-8.

Mrs. Churilla received a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh (H2P!) and an M.S.Ed in School Counseling from Duquesne University. 

Outside of school, you can find Mrs. Churilla trying new restaurants, traveling, and rooting for our Pittsburgh teams at sporting events. She currently resides in the city with her husband, son, and French Bulldog, Penny.

Hello. My name is Officer Matthew Abel. I am the School Resource Officer for the Chartiers Valley Intermediate School. I’ve been a police officer for 21 years. This will be my 3rd year as SRO at the Intermediate School. I was born and raised in Scott Twp. I am still a resident of the School District. I have 4 kids that also attend school in the district. I really enjoy being assigned to the school. It’s great interacting with the students. My goal is to keep the students and staff safe and to be a positive role model that the students can look up to.
