NOMINATIONS FOR ISPTSA BOARD MEMBERS TO BE TAKEN AT GENERAL ELECTION MEETING, JUNE 18

Over the last month or so, we have been asking for nominations for next year's ISPTSA board members. We have had a few people step up, however a large majority of our positions are still open due to many of our members fulfilling their two-year commitment. With all that is going on in our world today, thinking of the ISPTSA may not be at the top of your thinking, but we plan to continue on next year.

We currently have three positions filled and six open. Normally, we don’t have many problems filling positions, as our PTSA does a lot for the school and its teachers, staff, and students, all of whom recognize our importance. In light of the circumstances, we will take nominations for open positions and co-positions from the floor at our General Election Meeting on Thursday, June 18. Those who have been ISPTSA members for fifteen days prior to the election can self-declare candidacy to the president either by email or from the floor during our meeting.

SCHOOL NEWS
DÉJEUNER EN _______ 2020

One of the great traditions at International School is our annual  Déjeuner en Blanc (Lunch in White) picnic and field day. The  Dîner en Blanc concept began in Paris in 1988 when Frenchman François Pasquier invited a group of friends to an elegant outdoor dinner at the Bois de Boulogne, asking them to dress in white so they could find each other.  Dîner en Blanc  has grown to become a worldwide event spanning six continents and eighty-five countries in which people, dressed all in white, gather at an iconic urban location and enjoy a meal together. Diners provide their own food, tables, chairs and tablecloths.

At International School, we celebrate by ending classes two hours early so that students can set up and enjoy their picnic with friends and staff on our lower sports field. The upper field is used for games and activities, such as face painting, sidewalk chalk drawing, carnival games, and an impressive, ever-popular water balloon launcher! In the past, students were asked to plan their own picnics with friends and wear as much white clothing as possible.

Even though we won’t be able to gather in our usual way, on behalf of the French Department, we would like to invite the entire IS community—students, staff, and family members—to join us for virtual picnics , with a of couple changes.

This year, instead of  Déjeuner en Blanc , we’ll be celebrating  Déjeuner en _______ (blank),  because students can choose their own themes, such as another color to wear or something entirely different. Have fun with it and remember to keep it appropriate for school. This is an optional event and no attendance will be taken, but we encourage as much of our community as possible to connect with one another and “join” us in celebrating this tradition at any time during the week.

*** To be abundantly clear, we would like out picnickers to meet their friends on Teams, meaning that students will not be meeting each other in person . ***

What: You organize a virtual picnic or picnics & create your own theme.
When: June 15 – 19. You can participate any day or days that you’d like.
Who: You and your IS friends and/or family members.
Where: On Teams and wherever it is that you’re eating.
Why: It’s a fun & unifying tradition. And, why not? We miss each other.
What else: Daily challenges! What?! Keep reading...

Picnickers are invited to participate in the daily challenges which can be found in the IS Padlet, where you will be able to post photos and videos. The winner of each daily challenge will be the one with the most likes. Staff will moderate the posts and take the final tally of votes for each day on Friday, June 19, at 2:00 PM. Winners of all five challenges will be posted in a sixth Padlet shelf.

Daily Challenges:
Monday, 6/15: Find a picture of a celebration that brings people together.
Tuesday, 6/16: Sing/lip-sync a French song (video no more than 20 seconds).
Wednesday, 6/17: Share your favorite recipe.
Thursday, 6/18: Take a picture of what you are eating for your picnic.
Friday, 6/19: Take a picture of your picnic group.

If you have any questions, please contact your French teacher or Monsieur Kheriaty,  kheriatyj@bsd405.org.
