Counseling for Colts
Tune in here for this week’s Mindful Monday video.  For more counseling resources, check out Ms. Mallon’s May Counseling Newsletter and her Counseling for Colts website https://sites.google.com/cvsd.net/cvis-counseling/home .

Library Book Returns
Beginning, Monday, May 4, 2020 , you can drive by the Intermediate School to return your child’s library books.  There will be a box placed outside of Door 2 each Monday in May from 7:30-1:00 for library book returns (except Memorial Day, 5/25).  You can pull your car up to the curb and place the books in the box.  Please practice social distancing by letting one person go to the boxes at a time.  If your child has lost their library book, please email [email protected] and Mr. Zissis will let you know the cost of the book.

Lifetouch Pictures and Yearbooks
The spring pictures are printed and have been shipped to the school.  Pictures will be available for pick up on grade level locker clean out days.

The PTG has purchased a yearbook for every student!  At this time, the yearbook shipment has been delayed due to COVID-19.  If the yearbooks arrive in time for locker clean out days, they will be available for pick up on grade level locker clean out days.  If they do not arrive in time, an alternate plan will be created and shared.
Colts Team Store
The Athletic Department is launching a virtual team store on May 18.  https://www.bsnteamsports.com/index   Access code: ZLqdZPo1xV

Senior Celebration
The 2020 Commencement Ceremony has been postponed to July, but Chartiers Valley School District has planned a unique drive-through celebration for our graduating seniors on what would have been their graduation night, May 28, 2020.

Seniors should decorate their cars and begin making their way to the high school at 7:00 pm, where over 140 faculty and staff will greet each car with music, cheer, and lots of red and blue!

CV area businesses and neighbors are asked to step outside around 7:00 to cheer on the graduates as they make their way toward CVHS. Wear your CV gear, decorate your yards, turn on your lights, bang pots and pans, or simply clap and cheer. As they say, it truly takes a village!

Again, the Senior Celebration is May 28, 2020 beginning at 7:00 pm, rain or shine!

Dear Chartiers Valley Family,

I hope this finds you well and safe.

On Friday, Allegheny County moved in the “yellow” phase. Despite this shift, schools remain closed, and specific restrictions are still in place.

Our facilities department have been working hard to make sure that our work environments are clean and safe. All of the District custodians and maintenance staff have taken part in trainings regarding COVID-19, and the District continues to utilize cleaning products that sanitize and kill the virus on surfaces. The District has masks for employees who do not have their own.

CV leaders have been researching and developing our own “reopening plan.” This “task force,” for lack of a better term, will evaluate a variety of components including but not limited to:
  • Communications: Ms. Duckstein
  • Finance: Mrs. Eckman
  • Governance: Chair Dr. Vanatta
  • Instruction: Dr. Slavic
  • School Operations: Mr. Seltzer
  • Wellness: Ms. Weldon

This task force will spend the summer preparing for our return and reopen in the fall. The goal is to put provisions in place to the best of our ability. We will evaluate how we have done since the March 13 closure, identify what we can improve upon, and determine how to better prepare. One of the first tasks was to gather data regarding the spring closure. This was partly completed by the survey many of you completed. Thank you for the overwhelming response and insightful, helpful input.

At this point, the District has not received guidance or direction on whether or not we will be permitted to open in the fall; as of today, I am hoping for a traditional opening, as I am sure we all are!

As we draw towards the conclusion of our school year, I want to continue to express my gratitude for your support, patience, and cooperation. Together, I truly believe we have served our students quite well.  I know this has been quite the experience, to say the least. I wish you a wonderful week.

Sincerely,

Johannah M. Vanatta, Ed.D.
