Hello ISANNE friends,
Welcome to 2019!

When I worked in admissions, there was nothing worse than attending a school fair and have few visitors stop by our table! When we believe passionately in our school, we want to spread the word and reach potential families. The same is true for those representing companies that offer great services.
We recently held our annual Business Officers conference and one of the highlights is always the Corporate Partner Showcase. We have over 40 CP's in the ISANNE family and 20 of them joined us in Portsmouth for this great reception we fondly refer to as Mandatory Member Fun. At the Showcase, we introduce the representatives from each company and they speak for a minute highlighting the defining difference of their service. For added interest, they bring gifts that we raffle with each introduction and members need to be in the room to win. Some of this year's gifts included Celtics and Bruins tickets, wine and food baskets, gift certificates, and a David's Cookies subscription. This event has earned a reputation among our corporate partners not to be missed as it is a real opportunity to make connections. Several companies have contacted us over the years after hearing about this event from a Corporate Partner and ask how they can participate. We've created an event that gives our CP's time and added value for our members to learn about services that might help their school. It's an added incentive they might walk away with a nice gift. ISANNE is fortunate to have many Corporate Partners who also support our efforts and conferences with sponsorships and we appreciate their continued support.
Our business officers play a critical role in maintaining the health of our schools. During their annual conference, they share information and best practices in financial health. Our guest member blogger this month is Steve Solberg, Assistant Head and CFO at Cardigan Mountain School. Steve writes about ISANNE's new event "Independent School Finance 101." We created this workshop to help administrators understand the essential components of the school's budget. Please join us February 24th at Cardigan Mountain School.
We look forward to seeing you at an ISANNE event near you!

This month's Member View comes to us from Steve Solberg, Assistant Head of School and CFO at Cardigan Mountain School in Canaan, New Hampshire.

Come Join the Band!

One of the highlights of the annual ISANNE Business Officers conference earlier this month was a memorable performance by the Heronfield band. Not only were they amazingly talented, but the concert served to ground the conference in what is truly important: supporting young people as they grow and learn. For a group of business office professionals more familiar with spreadsheets and dark offices than lesson plans and dynamic classrooms, we appreciated the opportunity to watch the kids perform.  Read More

"Students Learn from People They Love"
by David Brooks

" Even when conditions are ideal, think of all the emotions that are involved in mastering a hard subject like algebra: curiosity, excitement, frustration, confusion, dread, delight, worry and, hopefully, perseverance and joy. You've got to have an educated emotional vocabulary to maneuver through all those stages.
And students have got to have a good relationship with teachers. Suzanne Dikker of New York University has shown that when classes are going well, the student brain activity synchronizes with the teacher's brain activity. In good times and bad, good teachers and good students co-regulate each other."   Read More
