Every March, we look forward to honoring and celebrating the achievements of women throughout our nation's history. In this special newsletter, the ISB recognizes leading Muslim women in Georgia. These under 30 dynamic leaders are paving the way for the future.


 

In celebration of women's history month, we will be showcasing two  special newsletters in which we will be highlighting diverse Atlanta Muslim women leaders. To see who we featured last year, click here and here.
Amena Yassin Abbas
Amena Yasin Abbas is a graduate student at the University of Georgia pursuing her Masters in Epidemiology and Health Policy and Management. She has lived in Athens, GA most of her life but has always been involved in the Atlanta Muslim community. In Athens, she assists in teaching Arabic, Quran, and Islamic Studies at Al Huda Islamic Center's Sunday School. She organizes community events for the mosque and enjoys immersing herself in community projects, fundraisers, or youth programs. She has a passion to help youth  become more  confident in themselves, to realize their worth and intelligence, and to become firm in their beliefs.

Zainab Alwan

 Zainab is an attorney specializing in family immigration law and works with victims of domestic violence and asylees. Zainab has spoken at various conferences held by the Georgia Bar Association and the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA). She is also an active community member. Zainab served as the interfaith intern at the University of Rochester (her undergraduate school) and was the co-founder of a Muslim-Jewish dialogue at the university, she was an intern with the Interfaith Youth Corp (IFYC), a counselor with Seeds of Peace, a fellow for the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation, the former Vice President of the Atlanta Muslim Young Professionals, a contributor to the book I Speak for Myself: American Women on Being Muslim,  and she currently serves on the Muslim Jewish Task Force in Atlanta. 

 

 
Yasmin Amer


Yasmin   Amer  is an International Newsource Editor at CNN. She finished her undergraduate degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. While at CNN,  Yasmin  helped cover big stories from the Middle East such as the Arab Spring and the Syrian civil war.  She is currently pursuing a master's degree in Human Computer Interaction from Georgia Tech.  Yasmin  has served as a career councilor at Atlanta's chapter of Dress by Success where she helped women prepare for job interviews.

Sadiya Dhanani


Sadiya Dhanani is currently in her last semester at Georgia Tech and will be receiving her degree in Business Administration. She plans to attend medical school in the near future and pursue a career in psychiatry. She is passionate about Muslim mental health and spreading mental health awareness to the community at large. Sadiya enjoys getting involved in volunteer efforts, both locally and abroad. She currently serves as the Muslim Student Association Committee Chair for Atlanta Muslim Young Professionals. She enjoys traveling, volunteer relief work, reading, and good coffee/tea.
Tiffany Eberhard 

Tiffany Eberhard is dedicated to keeping our earth healthy and clean through environmental action such as education, activism, research, and legislation. She is graduating from the University of Georgia as a Presidential Scholar with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health Science and a Bachelor of the Arts in Anthropology with a Water Resources Certificate. She is the executive director of Bag the Bag, an organization that aims to reduce single use plastic consumption. Bag the Bag won a Grant from the Office of Sustainability at the University of Georgia to implement plastic bag recycling bins on campus. She is planning to serve in the Peace Corps in Senegal as an Agroforestry Extension Agent. She enjoys spending time outdoors hiking, biking, and playing soccer.  She is very close to her family and enjoys playing the saxophone and ukulele with her sister. 

 


 

 
Aisha Yaqoob

Aisha Yaqoob is a graduate student at The University of Georgia pursuing her Masters in Public Administration & Policy. She also obtained her undergraduate degree in Public Relations from UGA in 2013. Alongside her masters program, Aisha is a Testing Coordinator for Disability Services at Gwinnett Technical College where she works with students with disabilities. In addition, she has been involved in many Atlanta-based and national organizations such as Islamic Relief USA, Global Deaf Muslim, Al-Falah Academy, and the Islamic Speakers Bureau of Atlanta. Aisha currently serves as the chairperson of the professional development committee for the Atlanta Muslim Young Professionals, sits on the advisory committee for the City of Suwanee's planning project, and is a core writer for AtlantaMuslim.com. After graduate school, she hopes to work in local government to bring change at the local level.
