ISC Skål international 90th Birthday Gift

Greetings to you all from the Skål International Councillors.

At the recently held International Skål Council (ISC) Midyear Meeting in Malaga we celebrated Skål International 89th Birthday Day on 28 April 2023.

It was announced that our Monaco International Skål Councillor Birgit Reimann had been approached by someone who wanted to donate US$ 50.000 to the Florimond Volckaert Fund on the condition of anonymity. Birgit has now received Euros 46,674.64, which she immediately transferred to Skål International Monaco bank account.

It was decided by the donor that a way of showing our appreciation for such a large gift would be for Skål International Members to “match dollar for dollar” to reach Euros 90,000, giving the chance to all Skål International members and Skål International Clubs to make a donation during the months of July, August, September and October. At the end of each month, Yolanda Sánchez, from the General Secretariat will notify the total received donations for the month to Skål International Monaco President Jonas Ogren and Treasurer Constantine Panoussi.

The matching amount will then be sent to Skål International to the “ISC 90^th Birthday Gift Account”.

Our ISC initiative was started in Malaga with Euros 90. Nine bracelets handmade by Masai women in Amboseli, Kenya were sold for Euros 10 each, World President Juan I. Steta bought five on behalf of the Executive Committee and four ISC members bought the rest.

If all Skål International Clubs participated, the average gift would be round Euros 150.

We encourage each and every Skål International Club to create a happy and fun way to raise the funds for their gift and at the same time remind members of the confidential emergency assistance Florimond Volckaert Fund does provide to Skål members who find themselves in unforeseen trouble.

Not to be in the way of other celebration initiatives, it has been decided to have a 4-month duration of our “ISC Skål 90th Birthday Gift” initiative.

Only funds raised from membership will be matched. If any un-matched balance remains on 1 November, it will be returned to the respective donor.

A cheque of the total of donations from Skål Clubs PLUS matching funds of the donor will be prepared for the International Skål Council President to hand over to Florimond Volckaert Fund during the 2023 World Congress in Malaga, Spain.

Donations to be sent to the usual Florimond Volckaert Fund’s bank account indicating as payment concept “ISC 90th Birthday Gift”.
