Sharpening Your Conflict Resolution Skills
As at the leader of a board who also holds the closest relationship wth the Head of School, there may be times when everyone is not on the same page and you need to get to some consensus or decision. As Board Chair, you are the 'chief facilitator' of your board and at times that might require you to diffuse some tension and conflicts in order to move forward.
Two leadership coaches, Mary Olson-Menzel and Mel Shahbazian, recently published an article that will help you "navigate difficult conversations and achieve outcomes that are perceived as a win-win." In this article they share specific active listening techniques that can be employed to resolve emotionally charged conversations that result in preserved relationships and acceptable solutions.
