The Future Purpose of Higher Education

The Dealbook Summit with the New York Times convened a task force on "The Education of Higher Education" focusing on how campuses are preparing for the future and addressing the significant concerns of students wondering if they will be employed after college.

A panel of seven university Presidents were interviewed by New York Times investigative reporter Jodi Kantor. Those university presidents represented

Oberlin College

Dartmouth

John Hopkins University

Vanderbilt University

University of San Diego

State University of NY

Stanford University

They were asked to share their views on questions like: What do they believe the education their institutions provide is for? What and how are universities contributing to society today? What do they believe needs to change, and how are they working toward those ends?

And as we examine the future of work — and the impact of A.I. — what does the work force of the next generation look like, and how are universities preparing their students?

This panel discussion is about 1 hr 20 min long. You can view the conversation on the YouTube link below or listen to the podcast on Apple podcasts, Spotify or Amazon music.
