We hope you are enjoying a fruitful Ramadan so far! It's hard to believe that we have concluded almost 3 weeks of fasting and are quickly moving toward the last blessed 10 days and Lailatul Qadr. It serves as a reminder for all of us to cherish and avail ourselves to all the blessings of this month. In past few weeks we have enjoyed  wonderful iftars hosted by the diverse communities of our umma and were blessed with full capacity turn out!
The Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) tells us "Whosoever shares in building a

A diverse gathering of poets, spoken words artists, youth and community members gathered yesterday at the Thornden Park Amphitheater for "Jihad by the Pen: The Self, The Soul" an Open Mic Poetry event hosted by the ISCNY Youth Activities Council (YAC).

Poems shared sparked conversations about identity, pressures to conform and marginalization. Other poems expressed pride in one's heritage and a desire for more spaces and  opportunities to engage and learn from each other.

The open group conversation yielded a hope that people would recognize and celebrate the diversity of the umma and offer more chances to talk about the struggles youth are navigating everyday.

YAC wants to hear from you! Keep writing and keep ey e an out for the next Open Mic event!!
