The International Safety Equipment Association (ISEA) honored Richard (Rich) Duffy, renowned fire safety expert, and retired Assistant to the General President for Occupational Medicine, Health and Safety for the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), with the prestigious Robert B. Hurley Distinguished Service Award, at the association's Award Dinner on Dec. 2 at the Westin Alexandria in Alexandria, Va.

Highlights from the report: Construction industry deaths increased 16 percent from 2011 
to 2014. In 2003, the number of construction related deaths was 1,171. In 2014, this 
decreased to 908, however, the construction industry had the highest fatality rate 
among all other industries this  same year.  Fatalities from falls in construction rose 
15.7 percent from 2013 to 2014, and r oofers accounted for the highest number of 
deaths in construction between 2003 and 2014.

The WPRC successfully advocated for and secured an important provision (Section 884) that discourages the use of "lowest price technically acceptable" (LPTA) contracting methods for
 items of personal protective equipment (PPE) and critical safety items. 

The United States has sufficient capacity for treating another outbreak of the Ebola virus, but financial, staffing and resource challenges remain a hurdle for many hospitals and health

according to new study released today.
