It will be important for OSHA to make clear in a potential rule that providing, training on and maintaining personal protective equipment is the responsibility of the employer, as that is
something often in dispute, said Julie Tremblay, global marketing manager for engineering
firm 3M Co. in St. Paul, Minnesota.
The move follows
a federal lawsuit, filed by the Associated Builders and Contractors, the
National Association of Manufacturers and other groups, challenging the provisions and
seeking to enjoin the rule's implementation.
"Currently we are not altering PPE [personal protective equipment] instructions," the
CDC's Bell said. "What this highlights is the fact that when you have an infection like
Zika, wherein a good percentage of patients don't actually have symptoms, it means it
is as important as ever to stick with good adherence to standard precautions.
MSHA announced that approximately 99 percent of the respirable coal mine dust samples
collected from April 1, 2016, through June 30, 2016, were in compliance with the agency's
coal mine dust standards.
The Kentucky Labor Cabinet's Department of Workplace Standards, Division of
Occupational Safety and Health Compliance has published its intent to adopt certain
Federal OSHA Recordkeeping regulations, including the new electronic reporting and
anti-retaliation provisions published in the May 12, 2016 Federal Register.
