The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)'s annual Safety Stand-Down initiative to prevent falls in construction is set for May 8-12, 2017.

The action could be a precursor to publication of a new proposed rule more favorable to 
industry organizations. At the same time, the rule may not reduce exposure to beryllium 
as much as the previous regulation, which was estimated to prevent 94 worker deaths per 
year.

 
In introductory remarks, R. Alexander Acosta noted the importance of good, safe jobs and said he considers job safety "incredibly important." 

 
An Essex County, NJ, jury awarded a local construction worker $2 million in response to 
claims that a serious eye injury occurred when a nail gun misfired on a residential framing 
job in October 2012, leaving the worker "industrially blind" in one eye,  according to NJ.com.
