Sex is Life
Dr. Roz's Corner
| | | |
I had a download during meditation yesterday.
I was thinking about how I have viewed sex throughout my life: as pleasure, as an ecstatic experience, as fun, as an escape, as a way to feel connected, as an expression of love or joy.
We can use sex for just about anything. When I ask students, what are the purposes of sex?, they list things like procreation, fun, intimacy. We can also use it to escape ego through orgasm, to grow our spirituality, or to find our more about ourselves. We can use it as a drug, or to manipulate, we can use it as currency, we can use it to heal.
And the download was this: sex is not just the life force. It IS life. It is everything--the good, the bad, the neutral, the sublime. If we approach sex as something to use, then this may be the way that we view life. And life tends to escape our grasp, moving in ways we don't expect.
I thought, I wonder what life would be like if I viewed sex more in this way? Sex, like life, is an ever changing, unpredictable, versatile creature that I do not have total control of, and that this is what makes it so interesting. Sex IS life. It is all that life is, and more.
In this season when everything is coming to life and everything is making love: Happy Spring.
