Can we count on you?

The Kick For Cures event has long since passed, but your chance to make a difference has not! One of the reasons our club is so fantastic is that we care; ISKC and ISBC are still very much devoted to raising as much money for charity as humanly possible- it IS the season of giving...

Getting festive with ISKC

Winter 2012

It's beginning to look a lot like SUCCESS

ISKC's very own Sensei Brian Mertel (a.k.a. "Instructor of the Year") has been elected as the USA Karate Representative to the US Olympic Committee Athlete Advisory Committee. According to him, the future is looking quite bright, indeed,

"I'm very excited to have this opportunity. It's a great time for karate and I look forward to helping the US athletes achieve their goals. Now is the time for us to have a system conducive to helping US athletes reach the top of the podium on a regular basis at all levels of competition!

Sensei Mertel will now be among the main representatives for Mertel Role USA Karate athletes in regards to the Olympic Movement, in addition to serving on the USA Karate Board of Directors. This position is a four year term that concludes in the year of each Summer Olympic Games.  Only USA Karate members who have competed in the Pan American Games, the World Championships, or the World Games can vote for the position. Mertel's accomplished history, in terms of representing the U.S. at literally every single level of international karate competitions, including working as an Assistant Coach for the Junior Pan American Championships in Cancun earlier this year, made him ideal for the appointment. Per Jake Lease, USA Karate Chief Executive Officer, "Brian will be an excellent representative for USA Karate and our athletes."

Sensei Mertel is replacing a man who served the Athlete Advisory Committee (you may have seen him providing a few stellar kata demonstrations at our Award Banquet, too!) for a decade, Dr. Clay Morton . As Lease stated, "He has big shoes to fill, and I know he will fill them admirably." ISKC's Mr. DiPasquale, also USA Karate President, had this to say about the change of guard, "As our AAC representative, and as a Board member, Clay has always put the best interest of the athletes first.  I know Brian will follow his example and represent all athletes well."
