Theme: Standing up for justice
Join the Islamic Society of North America for a celebratory banquet honoring a distinguished community member with the Lifetime Achievement Award for their lifetime of service and impact. Under the theme "Standing Up for Social Justice," the evening features three inspiring speakers, Miko Peled, Dalia Mogahed and Azhar Azeez, and will be emceed by Khalid Hamideh. ISNA Convention 2026 in Detroit, Michigan
We at the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) are delighted to announce that the 63rd Annual ISNA Convention will take place in Detroit, Michigan, over the Labor Day Weekend, September 4 - 7, 2026.
The ISNA convention is celebrated as one of the largest annual gatherings of Muslims in America, drawing thousands of participants. This convention promises to be an inspiring gathering, bringing together community members, families, leaders, scholars, youth, the business community, and other guests from across the country. With thought-provoking sessions, uplifting spiritual programs, engaging youth activities, interfaith dialogues, and a dynamic bazaar, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.
The program will feature keynote speeches, panel discussions, workshops, and special events designed to address timely issues, strengthen community bonds, and highlight opportunities for growth and service.
Detroit, with its rich history and vibrant Muslim community, will serve as the perfect host city for this national gathering of faith, knowledge, and unity.

To promote eco-friendly practices ISNA will this year offer awards of $1000, $600, $400 to the most eco-friendly (Green) Masajid/Islamic centers as part of the Green Ramadan Campaign. Nominate your masjid through the form linked below. Submission dates are from March 21- April 22, 2026.

On April 3 to 5, the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) hosted its 27th Annual Education Forum in collaboration with WISER and CISNA, in Chicago. It welcomed about 450 educators, administrators, parents, counselors, curriculum designers, mental health professionals, and community leaders for a weekend of practical learning and prophetic inspiration under the theme “Rooted, Ready: Developing Authentically-Grounded Leaders — Identity, Wellness, Resilience in Challenging Times.”

When We Defend Cloth More Than Children

Many Muslims reacted with intense anger to reports that fragments of the Kiswah — the sacred cloth that covers the Kaaba — had been gifted to convicted child sex offender and billionaire Jeffrey Epstein. Social media quickly filled with denunciations and expressions of outrage. Yet at the same time, thousands of children, women, and elders were being killed on live television in Gaza. Disturbingly, some of the same voices that cried for a piece of cloth remained silent. That contrast should give us pause not because concern for the Kiswah is misplaced, but because it reveals how some Muslims rank moral priorities.

Each generation is shaped by the places where its children learn who they are. Some schools teach facts. Some teach skills. A rare few teach belonging, responsibility, and purpose. The Irvine, Calif.-based Art and Wilderness Institute (AWI) is one of those rare places. AWI stands not merely as an educational program but as a living example of what is possible when learning is rooted in nature, ethics, creativity, and community. What began six years ago as a small, faith-inspired experiment has grown into a thriving model of education — one that families trust, children love, and communities are eager to replicate.

Mamdani Shows Fighting Antisemitism Doesn’t Mean Silencing Muslims

During his first day in office, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani drew a clear moral and political line between fighting antisemitism and silencing criticism of Israel.
Mamdani revoked earlier executive orders from the mayor’s office that had banned divestment from Israel and embedded the highly controversial International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism into city governance — measures that had been used to silence speech, activism, and advocacy on behalf of Palestine. At the same time, he left intact the city’s Office to Combat Antisemitism, making clear that protecting Jewish New Yorkers was not only a priority, but a responsibility.
