Hello ISNP Upper Campus Families,

Thank you to the parents who sent in staff shout outs last week. We appreciate you being a part of helping us celebrate our teachers and staff. A link will be available each week in the newsletter, so keep the compliments coming!

Quarter 1 grades are now available through the Family Access Portal. You can access the portal here. If you have any questions or concerns about your child's grades, please contact your child's teacher.

A friendly reminder, the ISNP Upper Campus will be hosting a Parent/Teacher Conference Event on November 2 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. This is an opportunity for you to schedule a meeting with your child's teachers and discuss, in person, your child's progress. If you have requested a meeting, the teacher with whom you want to meet will contact you to schedule a time. Please be sure to respond, so the teacher(s) can schedule a specific time just for you. We look forward to seeing you there!

Have a great week!

In The Classrooms

From Mr. Weaver, Service Learning

One of the teams in my middle school Service Learning class is preparing to host a middle school Halloween party on Monday, October 30 from 4:30-7:00 p.m. on campus next to the cafeteria. The students began selling party wristbands for $2 each on Friday, October 27 during lunch in the Pavilion and will continue to sell them on Monday, October 30 at the same time and place.

To promote the party, they prepared and put up posters, designed a parent newsletter flyer and wrote a public address announcement. They planned games and competitions including limbo, a costume contest, cornhole, mummy wrap, eyeball scavenger hunt, and Simon Says, and they purchased snacks to sell (water, Kool-Aid, chips and candy). They also bought decorations and prizes, created a party music playlist and lined up several teachers as chaperones.

Other things they had to consider were bathroom and water fountain access, first aid if necessary, access to the party site, alternate rain location and cleanup. They also had to gather all the things they needed such as a limbo pole, ice chests, cornhole games, public address system and more.

After repaying up-front costs, the team will donate all proceeds to the Animal Welfare League of Charlotte County, a no-kill animal shelter. They will each write a reflection essay and together prepare a trifold display to exhibit to the class while making a presentation about their project, from idea to cleanup.

From Mrs. Boreni, Middle School Art

This past week my 3D and Digital Art students have been creating their own fall watercolor paintings of leaves, pumpkins and trucks. In photography students are exploring taking photographs of abstract and colorful subjects. Here is a sample of some of their photos and paintings!

From Ms. McCall, High School Art

Last quarter, my Drawing and Painting students worked on their Quarter 1 Choice Project. The students chose their subject(s), and they worked on the project, off and on, throughout the first quarter. Some of the students are photographed below with their paintings.

The other photos are of a shark mural created by students in my Painting classes. Each square of the mural was painted by a different student. As they painted their pieces, they were unaware of what the other students were painting, and how it would all, eventually, fit together. Lastly, I have included photos of choice drawings from some of my Drawing 1 students. Enjoy!

From Coach Santoro, Health Opportunities through Physical Education (HOPE)

Mr. Santoro's HOPE class has put positivity in the lives of all that enter and eat in the cafeteria! During their lesson on Physical, Emotional, and Mental Health, the class learned how to strengthen student health in these areas. They created posters for display in the cafeteria, and these posters describe and demonstrate how students can become stronger in all three states. The students' worked showed great creativity and individualism!

From Mr. Tollar, 7th Grade Life Science

Last week, my students increased their understanding of how the body acquires its energy for all necessary functions. The students learned about cellular respiration, fermentation, and photosynthesis prior to beginning their project. For the project, students were tasked with going beyond what we discussed in class and make connections that demonstrated a thorough knowledge of the three topics we were studying. This project was designed to not only lead them to a greater understanding of the human body as a whole, but to also teach them the value of presentation and teamwork in accomplishing a goal!

From Mrs. Boucher, Biology

Last week, students in my Biology classes learned about how the cell membrane interacts with its environment to take in and get rid of water. It was a vocabulary rich week. To help students learn, I had them complete a card sorting activity which required them to match the vocabulary terms with their definitions. Incorrect terms were separated from the matched definitions until they had all accurate matches. This activity was followed up with an exit ticket that had students practicing the same vocabulary by applying the terms to real-world scenarios.
