Hello ISNP Upper Campus Families,

The countdown continues with only 9 days left in the second quarter! Four of those days will include midterm exams, so it is very, very, very important that students stay focused on their academic responsibilities!

The 6-8 FAST ELA Progress Monitoring (PM) 2 Assessments were given last week. This week we will administer the grades 6-8 FAST Math PM 2 Assessments. If you have a student in grades 6-8, please review the letter that is linked below in the testing information section for more details. If your child is scheduled to take an exam, please ensure he or she gets plenty of rest the night before and has a healthy and hearty breakfast the morning of his or her exam. If you have any questions regarding state assessments, please contact Mrs. Char Tollar, ISNP Upper Campus Testing Coordinator, at Char.tollar@imaginenorthport.com.

ISNP students were highly engaged last week in many activities, both academic and extracurricular. More details on that can be found in this newsletter along with information about the numerous and exciting events and activities scheduled for the weeks ahead.

Enjoy your week!

FAST Testing Information

ISNP students will participate in the Math Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) Progress Monitoring (PM) 2 beginning Monday, December 11, 2023. Please see below for the dates your child is scheduled to take the assessment:

  • 8th grade students will take the Math FAST assessment on December 11, 2023
  • 7th grade students will take the Math FAST assessment on December 12, 2023
  • 6th grade students will take the Math FAST assessment on December 14, 2023
  • 6-8th grade students who missed testing will take retakes on December 13, 2023

Please see the letter linked here for detailed information regarding the FAST.

The administration period for these exams is very short. It is important that your child is present on the day of his or her exams. Absences from state-issued tests require makeup exam periods that are extremely challenging to schedule. Please assist us by ensuring your child is present and on time on testing day.

If you have any questions about the FAST, please contact Mrs. Char Tollar, ISNP Upper Campus Testing Coordinator, at char.tollar@imaginenorthport.com

Welcome Mrs. Scarlett!

Kristina Scarlett, Clinic Aide

Having spent 20 years in the medical field, stepping into the role of the Clinic Aide at ISNP feels like coming home. What makes it even more special is that my kids have a been part of this incredible community since 2008. So, caring for the students and staff here isn't just a job—it's personal! I'm excited to be part of the Shark family!

In The Classrooms - Electives

From Mr. Weaver, Journalism

Journalism students are taking pictures, interviewing students, writing stories and designing pages for the 2024 Yearbook. This week, students are polishing their second stories, which can go through multiple drafts. Several students are beginning to place photos on pages. All Journalism students get experience taking photos, writing stories and using digital design software.

While it’s technically the record of a school year, the yearbook actually has to be completed and sent to the publisher by the second week of April in order for us to get it back in time to sell and distribute during the last two weeks of school.

You can save $5 by ordering the book online at www.yearbookordercenter.com before December, 21. You can also add a student name and any of several icons to the cover of the book for an extra charge. You can also buy and design an advertisement to recognize the hard work of your student. Books will be on sale in mid-May for $35.

From Ms. Lewis, Technology

In an era where technology plays a central role in our lives, the importance of cybersecurity cannot be overstated. Last week, twenty-nine of our sixth and seventh-grade computer science students earned a cybersecurity certification! Our ISNP students will be well-prepared to take proactive steps to enhance their knowledge and to contribute to this ever-expanding field.

Through this certification, students have demonstrated their ability to understand and address cybersecurity challenges and navigate the digital landscape responsibly. This milestone presents an opportunity for students to become familiar with technology and potentially spark an interest in a computer-related career. Congratulations to our outstanding middle school cybersecurity-certified students!

From Mrs. Boreni, Art

Last week in Mrs. Boreni's art classes, students created foam board prints using their own drawings, digital designs and photographs. After transferring their images to foam board sheets, they colored the foam boards with markers and created multiple prints of their images in different colors. Check out their artworks!

From Mrs. McCall, Art

This quarter, we have been working on the principles of perspective and how to create it. Here are a few of the black and white paintings from our students as they work on light and shadow.

Mr. Morais, Technology

Using a project planning guide, students in Digital Information Technology class have been working through the stages of creating an app from scratch! First, students completed the planning phase. Then, they translated these plans to a working program in App Lab through a series of steps. Next, the students worked with classmates to review and update the functionality of their apps before submitting the final project. This major project will help students practice the concepts they learned this quarter, such as Boolean expressions, conditions, variables, and functions in computer programming.

National Honor Society

On Monday, December 4, fifteen ISNP students were inducted into the Imagine School at North Port Chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS). To be eligible for membership students must have a 3.2 GPA, complete a formal application including three letters of recommendation, and have their application approved by the ISNP NHS Faculty Council. Upon acceptance into the organization, the students must participate in a formal induction ceremony for their membership to be official.

The 2023 NHS Induction Ceremony included a brief welcome by Ms. Ness, the NHS Sponsor, followed by opening remarks and details about the ceremony from NHS President and ISNP Senior Emily DiNenna. An official candle lighting ceremony took place with a reading on each of the standards of the organization. The NHS standards include Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character. Presenting these standards were NHS Treasurer Autumn Bramlitt, Chelsea Corea, Emily DiNenna, and NHS Secretary Anaia Davis.

The 15 inductees, along with current members, then stood and took the oath of allegiance to the NHS. Each inductee was awarded their official certificates and signed their names into the school's national registry book.

Students inducted were Alexander Andreev (grade 10), Rohan Bienne (10), Sophie Brown (10), Ashlee Chain (11), Jason Conte (11), Karla Del Toro (11), Brooke Favreau (12), Benjamin Franson (11), Maggie Gordon (10), Chanove Ho (12), Quinnlyn Mills (11), Carter Sargent (11), Cole Tucker (10), Steven Van (11), and Christopher Watson (11).

Congratulations to these students on this recognition. We know you will continue to represent yourselves and ISNP very well as members of the ISNP National Honor Society!

Young Marines in the Community

On Saturday, December 2, the ISNP Young Marines represented ISNP by marching in the 2023 North Port Poinsettia Parade. The Young Marines also served as the Color Guard and presented colors for the tree lighting ceremony at City Hall.

ISNP Sports

Girls Weightlifting

On Friday, December 8, members of our Lady Sharks Weightlifting Team came out victorious at the Sarasota County Championships held at Venice High School! Freshman, Alliana Janeiro earned gold in her weight class and Senior, Senika Johnson, earned bronze in her weight class. Our Lady Sharks remain on top! Great job!

High School Boys Basketball

On Thursday, December 7, the ISNP Varsity Boys Basketball team defeated Evangelical Christian 56-36! They turned up the energy tremendously from the last game and were highly competitive on both ends of the court. At one point, Evangelical made a run and took the lead. The Sharks held their composure and fought back, regaining the lead and pulling away! This was a great win!

On Saturday, December 9, the Varsity Sharks took on Seacrest Country Day School at home in the Shark Tank. The team started out very flat in the first quarter. Momentum began to shift, however, after the Sharks hit three 3 pointers in a row and began to dial up the defense! In the second quarter, the Sharks kept the energy high and the defense strong and won the game by 25 points with a final score of 73-48! Top scorers for the Sharks included Angelo Blas (25 points), J.J. Hall (12 points), and Zahmir Jackson (11 points).

Middle School Boys Basketball

On Thursday, December 7, the ISNP Middle School Boys Basketball team played a great game against Community Day School with few turnovers, numerous electric offensive fast breaks, and multiple defensive steals and blocked shots. The Sharks were victorious with a final score of 38-15! Ashanti Roundtree, Michael Ramsey, Keathon Buckle, and Navid Lafortune all had over 6 points each. Great game Sharks!

JV Boys Basketball

On December 4, the Sharks played hard against Gulf Coast Heat and defeated them 55-47! The Sharks trailed most of the game, but they made a big comeback to seal the deal in the 4th quarter! Players with the most points scored included Malakai Strauss (15 points), Peyton Rassbach (14 points), and Brennen Taft (11 points).
