Utah regulators now require that online retailers make the law labels for mattresses they sell online easily accessible to Utah consumers before sale. Although this new requirement became effective on January 1, 2024, Utah has announced a period of “soft enforcement” for the new rule until June 1, 2024.

The Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) has recalled Nap Queen 12-inch Maxima Hybrid Mattresses for failing to meet the mandatory federal mattress flammability standard.

ISPA recently published two new sustainability resources prepared by the ISPA Sustainability Committee that members can access on ISPA’s website:

• ISPA’s glossary of sustainability terms contains definitions for relevant sustainability terms published by reliable sources. To improve communications throughout the mattress industry value chain by encouraging all parties use a consistent sustainability vocabulary, ISPA has decided to make this resource publicly available.
• ISPA’s directory of sustainability certifications lists sustainability certifications relevant to the mattress industry. This resource is an ISPA member benefit that is password protected.

According to the National Association of Manufacturers’ (NAM) Monday Economic Report for this week, nonfarm payroll employment rose by 216,000 in December, up from 173,000 in November. The U.S. economy added 2,697,000 workers in 2023, slowing from 4,793,000 in 2022. The unemployment rate remained at 3.7%, with the number of unemployed Americans remaining flat (6,268,000).
