Chris Combs, whose Team Chris Combs Foundation was the beneficiary of ISPE-CaSA's fundraising efforts in 2019, died on Sept. 3 at the age of 45.
ISPE-CaSA designated Team Chris Combs as its target charity at 2019 Life Sciences Technology Conference in Raleigh. Combs was at the event to accept a "big check" in the amount of $17,000.
Combs was a legendary baseball player for the N.C. State University Wolfpack, hitting 42 home runs in his college career 1993-1997. This performance still ranks fifth on the school’s all-time list. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1997.
After Combs was diagnosed in May 2016, he and his wife, Gena, began to help raise money for Project ALS. The annual fundraisers spawned “Strikeout ALS” games at NC State and Broughton. Over time, his Team Chris Combs organization raised over $4 million for ALS research.
