Snapshot of Success: Highlights from Our Eleventh Week!

Halloween at ISSAC, a Favorite Book Character Parade

At our school's annual Halloween event, "Favorite Book Character," the grounds came alive with a burst of color and creativity as students paraded around in a delightful array of cute and imaginative costumes.

The parade, held in the yard and blacktop area, showcased everything from miniature superheroes to graceful princesses, but what truly made it special was the unique ISSAC tradition: every costume was inspired by a beloved book character. Selected students took to the stage to passionately speak about the books that had inspired their outfits, adding a layer of storytelling and literary celebration to the festivities.

Even those without costumes proudly held up pieces of paper displaying the names of the books they had chosen, emphasizing that everyone had a place in the parade. This meaningful tradition transforms Halloween into more than just a day of candy and costumes. While the fun and treats are certainly part of the joy, ISSAC goes deeper, encouraging kids to immerse themselves in stories and developing a lifelong friendship with books. It’s a perfect blend of educational inspiration and festive delight, making the event both memorable and enriching.

Creativity

Two of our talented students, Neala and Aidan Wang, have impressively designed and created parts of their own costumes using 3D printers for this year's Halloween/favorite book parade. Their creativity and innovative use of technology truly brought their characters to life!

Weekly Interview

Wasim Allam, Jupiter

Wasim is ten years old and his birthday is July 10th. He lives in Lake Forest with his parents and his brother, Mazen who is eight. On his spare time, he enjoys playing video games like Ticket to Ride and card games like Quatorze. He enjoys card games because they are fast and fun. Wasim likes learning from his teacher, Mr. Darryl ,because "he knows a lot and he is fun." Wasim's most interesting book is one about Egypt. His favorite food is Kebbeh, a traditional Lebanese food, made of ground beef in a dough ball. One of Wasim's greatest accomplishments was winning a tennis match against the best team in Orange County. Wasim's favorite place to be is at home with his family. What Wasim is really looking forward to this end of school year is visiting his family in Lebanon. Wasim's PBL goal was to be better in his accuracy in tennis. He plays for a team in Heritage Park and is going to the playoffs this weekend! Wasim's favorite places to be are his home, his community tennis courts where he plays with his family, and their pool. Wasim is a caring, focused, and engaged student. ISSAC is proud of you, Wasim!
