Greetings,
For the last 15 years, the University has utilized Moodle as our Learning Management System (LMS). A lengthy analysis concluded in 2023 led to the decision for Idaho State University to transition to Canvas as the LMS for the institution. Results of the summer 2023 pilot show that Canvas is the preferred LMS of both a majority of our students and the first choice of our faculty who participated in the pilot. This decision is both a student-centric result of adopting the end-user-preferred choice and is also choosing a more modern, faculty-user-friendly system. Each of our public four-year sister institutions in Idaho already use Canvas and have reported very favorably on their choice of Canvas as their LMS.
A new Canvas Transition website is now available to provide the latest information and answer questions related to ISU's transition to Canvas. Here you will find a timeline, overview of the process, training, resources, and detailed FAQs.
Faculty can begin exploring Canvas now by requesting a sandbox course and completing the self-paced training designed specifically for ISU - ISU Canvas Faculty Essentials. Staff and student access to Canvas will be provided in the coming months. Additional training, resources, and help for the transition can be found in the Training & Resources section of the website.
In addition to the website, please join Academic Affairs and the Instructional Technology Resource Center (ITRC) for a Town Hall at 11 a.m. on March 26, 2024.
