Dear Colleagues,
The ISU Program for Instructional Effectiveness and the College of Education will be hosting the first annual ISU Teaching and Learning Symposium on Thursday, April 6. ISU faculty, staff, and graduate assistants are invited to attend and learn more about high-impact practices of teaching. Dr. James Lang, bestselling education author and writing expert, will provide a keynote presentation to kick off the symposium starting at 12 p.m. in the Pond Student Union Wood River Room. Lunch will be provided to the first 100 attendees who RSVP.
Lunch will be followed by two breakout sessions focused on high-impact teaching practices from 2-4 p.m. in the Salmon River Suites. Breakout session #1, entitled - Going Big and Wide: Using Writing Projects as the Centerpiece of Your Course - will be led by Robin Lindbeck (College of Education) and Alex Bolinger (College of Business). Breakout session #2, entitled - Utilizing Capstone Projects for Student Success and Professional Development - will be led by Elaine Foster (College of Education), John Ney (College of Business), and Karen Appleby (College of Education).
We will end the day from 4:30-6 p.m. by mixing and mingling with colleagues and our Keynote speaker - Dr. James Lang. We will also hear from our ISU Featured Speaker - our very own Dr. Xiaomeng (Mona) Xu (College of Arts and Letters). Mona will be talking about Celebrating Teaching as a Community Science.
We encourage people to attend in person, but the symposium will also be available on Zoom.
